Graduate students engaged in gaming research now have an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the American Gaming Association (AGA) through a sponsored internship program designed to align academic goals with industry demands.
The Applied Research Experience Internship invites master’s and doctoral candidates to propose novel research projects utilizing either primary or secondary data. Each approved project can obtain up to $5,000 in funding, provided it fulfills academic standards and generates findings applicable to the U.S. gaming industry.
Ideal candidates should possess strong analytical and communication abilities, a solid understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and a keen interest in studies related to consumer behavior, gambling patterns, or operational strategies within the sector.
“This initiative underscores the AGA’s dedication to bolstering the research framework that underpins a responsible and innovative gaming industry,” stated Dr. Carly Johnson, DrPH, MPH, Director of Research at the American Gaming Association. “We take pride in empowering the forthcoming generation of researchers whose insights will enhance our comprehension of the factors influencing the future of gaming.”
Internship participants will conduct their research under the mentorship of the AGA research team. The organization emphasizes that the program provides ongoing mentorship and structured direction, allowing fellows to work collaboratively with the team on a research timeline and scope that meets both academic and industry needs.
Proposals are currently being accepted until December 30, 2025. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis through early February 2026.
