The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) unanimously voted to renew the licenses of Detroit’s three commercial casinos at its public board meeting. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino will continue to support city and state programs through 2027. The casinos remit 19% of adjusted gross receipts in wagering taxes, with 8.1% going to the state and 10.9% to Detroit, along with payments under development agreements. Retail sports betting receipts are taxed at 8.4%, in addition to annual regulatory fees.

The renewal process involved reviewing each operator’s financial standing, operational practices, and compliance with gaming regulations. The decision allows the properties to continue operating under state oversight, ensuring game fairness and operator accountability. MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams commended the casinos’ integrity, emphasizing the importance of protecting patrons and promoting responsible gaming.

License reviews for Michigan’s commercial casinos occur annually, with Detroit’s casinos next up for renewal in September 2027. The MGCB remains dedicated to upholding industry standards and ensuring Michigan continues to take pride in its gaming sector.
