A tragic shooting incident occurred last night at Bally’s Kansas City Casino, resulting in one fatality.
The Kansas City Police Department was alerted to a reported shooting at approximately 9:30 PM local time at 1800 East Front Street. Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical personnel found an 18-year-old male with gunshot injuries.
The victim, identified as Aundre Harris Jr., succumbed to his injuries later at a nearby hospital. Authorities reported that a confrontation involving several individuals began inside the casino before escalating to the parking lot.
The police apprehended a suspect at the location. Those with any information regarding this incident are urged to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043. Anonymous tips can be submitted at 816-474-TIPS, with a reward of up to $25,000 available for information leading to an arrest.
Underage Victim in Shooting Incident
Bally’s Kansas City Casino has not released a statement about the parking lot shooting. Meanwhile, their social media platforms continue to promote gaming activities and upcoming events as usual.
Conversely, Bally’s Lincoln in Rhode Island commented on a shooting incident at Brown University in December, which claimed two lives after a gunman opened fire within an engineering building. Bally’s Rhode Island is located less than five miles from the university campus.
It remains uncertain if Harris played any role in the initial altercation inside the casino. His presence should not have occurred, given Missouri’s casino regulations that prohibit anyone under the age of 21 from entering a land-based or riverboat gaming venue.
Previously known as the Hilton Flamingo, Isle of Capri, and Casino KC, Bally’s Corporation acquired the riverboat in July 2020 from Eldorado Resorts. Instead of being a floating casino on the Missouri River, the venue has always been situated on a five-acre manmade lake just inland from the riverbank.
The branding transitioned to Bally’s in August 2021 after Twin River purchased the Bally’s casino name. Bally’s Kansas City recently underwent a significant renovation costing $50 million in 2023.
Subsequently, Bally’s sold the physical assets of Bally’s Kansas City to Gaming and Leisure Properties, a real estate investment trust led by Penn Entertainment.
Violent Incidents at Casinos
Casinos have witnessed a troubling trend of violent crimes recently.
In December, a shooting incident within MGM National Harbor, located just outside of Washington, D.C., claimed the life of one man. That same month, another shooting outside Horseshoe Casino Baltimore also resulted in a fatality. In both cases, the shooters were known to their victims.
In a different situation at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas, authorities alleged that an irate gunman opened fire, leading to the deaths of two individuals, including a mother of five and a retired customs and border official.
