Officer Keir Roebin David Morey, 28, from San Pedro Town, was charged with theft.

An incident occurred when a suspect reported that $320 worth of casino chips and $15 in cash, left at the police station, were stolen, as per Channel 5 Belize.

The victim, Kevin Salazar, a 28-year-old bartender, was arrested initially on September 10 at Palm Casino in San Pedro.

He was socializing at the casino when a female officer found illegal drugs on him. He was then taken to the San Pedro Police Station.

Personal Possessions Handed Over

On September 11, Salazar was charged with drug possession, but the specific drug was not disclosed.

Salazar pleaded guilty at the San Pedro Magistrate Court and was fined.

When processed, Salazar gave the police station the casino chips, cash, cellphone, watch, and chain. But upon his return, the chips and cash were missing, reported a TV news channel.

A department employee stated that Salazar did not sign for the missing items. Salazar claimed that he handed over the chips and cash.

Investigation After Missing Items

Officers conducted an internal investigation, reviewed surveillance footage, and took statements from Salazar.

Later, Officer Morey was detained by colleagues for investigation and officially arrested on Tuesday. The case is likely to be brought to a local court.

It is unknown if Morey was suspended from duty and he was informed of his legal rights upon arrest.

The status of the money and casino chips in returning to Salazar remains uncertain.

San Pedro is located in the southern part of Ambergris Caye, a northern Belize island.
