British artist Leona Lewis has canceled her December 20 “A Starry Night Christmas” residency show at the Venetian’s Voltaire, citing a sore throat as the reason for her decision.

In an heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Lewis stated: “I’m deeply saddened to announce that I won’t be able to perform at tomorrow night’s show. I’ve been dealing with a sore throat for the last few days and attempted to go through with tonight’s performance, but it has only made me feel worse.”
At 40 years old, Lewis gained worldwide recognition after winning “The X Factor UK” in 2006. She has since released five albums, achieved numerous international successes, and sold over 35 million records globally, solidifying her position as one of Britain’s most accomplished contemporary vocalists.
The 34-show holiday residency, her first major engagement in Las Vegas, started on November 1 and is set to run until January 3.
“Making this decision was incredibly difficult and I’m truly sorry to let down anyone who was planning to attend,” she mentioned. “Thank you for your understanding, patience, and kindness… I’ll be back under the stars very soon.”
Patrons are encouraged to request refunds or exchange their tickets for an alternate date by emailing [email protected].
As of 5:40 a.m. PT, Lewis’ December 21 performance was still confirmed. Her following show is scheduled for Christmas Eve.
The Impact of Cancellations
Concert cancellations carry a heavier weight in Las Vegas compared to other locations. Many visitors on the Strip plan entire getaways around a single show, including flights, accommodations, and dining arrangements.
For internationally renowned artists like Lewis, the effects can be more severe. They often invest thousands of dollars into nonrefundable travel and extended stays, making ticket refund or exchange options feel inadequate.
Lewis’ followers, especially those who engaged with her Instagram post, displayed a mixture of support and disappointment.
“I’m devastated as this coincides with my birthday, but your health and well-being take precedence over all else—wishing you a swift and happy recovery!!” commented Instagram user @michael_ao. “You’ve been a beacon of light in my life, and I hope to see you bring your amazing show to the UK soon xx✨”
“I can hardly believe this is happening, but get well soon, Queen ❤️ I love you,” expressed @javier10miniet.
“Your health is the priority. Rest and take care of yourself ❤️❤️❤️,” added @ionacapri.
