  • The alleged shooter from Brown University was discovered deceased by suicide on Thursday night in New Hampshire.
  • Authorities indicate that Claudio Manuel Neves Valente had a short residency in Las Vegas back in 2017.

Cláudio Manuel Neves Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese individual recognized as the perpetrator of the December 13, 2025, shooting at Brown University, had a brief, documented connection to Las Vegas.

Investigators report that Valente fatally shot two students and injured nine during a review session for a final exam at Brown’s Barus & Holley engineering building. Just two days later, on December 15, he also fatally shot MIT plasma physicist Nuno Loureiro at the professor’s residence in Brookline, Massachusetts.

The search for Valente concluded on December 18 when he was discovered deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a rented storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire.

Connection to Las Vegas

According to law enforcement officials, Valente had previously lived in Las Vegas, with public records showing his residency at 475 Sierra Vista Drive — situated approximately 1.5 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip, close to UNLV and the Convention Center area.

His time in Las Vegas appears to have been limited to 2017, the same year he obtained permanent residency in the U.S. through the Diversity Immigrant Visa lottery program.

Valente’s journey in the U.S. began in August 2000 when he entered the country on an F-1 student visa to pursue a Ph.D. in physics at Brown University. He enrolled only from fall 2000 until spring 2001, then took a leave of absence in April 2001, and officially withdrew in July 2003.

Following his departure from Brown, his activities remained mostly undocumented until his time in Las Vegas. Investigators found no indications of employment at Nevada casinos, criminal behavior, or community involvement while he was in the area.

Post-Las Vegas, Valente relocated to Miami, which is noted as his last permanent residence.

The conclusion of Valente’s life marks the end of the manhunt, yet it leaves many questions regarding his motives unanswered.
