- Can AI, including ChatGPT, forecast lottery outcomes? Some lucky winners believe so
- Expensive new AI software claims to enhance your winning chances
Is it possible for ChatGPT and other AI technologies to assist you in winning the lottery or at least boost your probabilities?

With several recent lottery winners attributing their successes to AI, there’s growing intrigue that tools like ChatGPT, Grok, and Perplexity may outperform human intuition or traditional random number selections.
For instance, a Virginia resident named Carrie Edwards won $150K playing Powerball and admitted she utilized ChatGPT to determine her numbers. Her $3 ticket, which included the Power Play option, matched four of the five drawn white balls plus the red Powerball, earning her the game’s third-largest prize.
“I said, ‘Hey, ChatGPT, do you have numbers for me?’” Edwards commented. Notably, she chose to donate her entire $150K winnings to charity.
Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is an astonishing $900 million. Is letting AI choose your numbers a wise choice?
AI’s Winning Selections in Michigan
Edwards isn’t alone in her strategy; another winner from Michigan named Tammy Carvey claimed $100K during Powerball’s September 6 drawing, revealing that she too used ChatGPT for her number selection.
“I typically only play Powerball when the jackpot is substantial, and with the prize exceeding $1 billion, I decided to buy a ticket. I asked ChatGPT for a set of numbers and played those on my ticket,” Carvey shared.
The rise of AI technologies has started to influence the lottery sector, with some innovative entrepreneurs developing software that supposedly improves your winning probabilities. The Lottery Picker AI is a digital tool designed to analyze historical results to generate number combinations that are claimed to be statistically more favorable.
“Given how extensive the Powerball and Mega Millions matrix has become, hitting the jackpot is incredibly challenging. Utilizing effective software can help analyze numbers and suggest the most probable outcomes based on past results,” states the Lottery Picker website.
The software is available for $209.99 for a 90-day license, or $309.99 for a permanent access.
However, mathematicians and AI experts argue that those investing in such software might be throwing their money away.
Are Lotteries Truly Random?
While AI can offer valuable insights into various future events, in the realm of random lottery draws, its predictions are no better than chance.
“Regrettably, I can’t predict the outcomes of Mega Millions or any lottery drawings,” ChatGPT informed Casino.org. “The results of lotteries are entirely random, and there is no systematic way to reliably predict future outcomes. Even expert statisticians are unable to outperform random guessing.”
When pressed for tonight’s potential numbers, ChatGPT suggested 7, 14, 29, 43, 56, and the Mega Ball as 18.
When asked if I should participate in tonight’s Mega Millions, ChatGPT advised, “If you enjoy the excitement and can afford to play without compromising your finances, feel free — just keep your wagers modest. However, if you’re depending on it for financial relief, it’s wiser to abstain.”
