Las Vegas comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson and is 61 years old according to his driver’s license, was taken to the hospital on Friday (Sept. 18) following an incident that TMZ reported as a suicide attempt, citing sources familiar with the situation.
His publicist, Jami Schlicher, confirmed that Carrot Top is recovering and under care. She requested privacy for his family and friends and did not address the reported reason for the incident.
MGM Resorts referred any inquiries to the statement released by Carrot Top’s publicist.
Carrot Top’s shows at the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 29) were canceled. The residency does not have performances scheduled on Sundays.
On Friday around 2 p.m., Thompson was spotted at Finney’s Crafthouse in Downtown Summerlin with two companions.
Carrot Top has been headlining the Atrium Showroom since November 2005, making it one of the longest-running comedy residencies on the Las Vegas Strip. His show features prop comedy, physical comedy acts, custom stage props, and topical material and has been extended in subsequent contract negotiations.
While no return date has been announced by the Luxor, as of Friday night, the Monday 8 p.m. performance was still listed for sale.
