A man was taken into custody on Thursday at Sky River Casino in Elk Grove, California, accused of the murder of his wife in 2023.
Nathanuel McCowan, 49, from Oakland, Calif. has been charged with the killing of Laketha McCowan.
He was apprehended on an arrest warrant sanctioned by Alameda Superior Court just before the arrest. Nathanuel McCowan was incarcerated at Santa Rita Jail. Law enforcement reported that the arrest on Thursday went smoothly.
The case has been transferred to local prosecutors. If convicted, he could potentially face significant prison time.
The tragic incident occurred on February 26, 2023 at the Edwards Avenue ramp off Interstate 580 in Oakland. The victim was discovered on the roadside and succumbed to her injuries from a gunshot wound at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The arrest was the result of a joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
Armed Individual Evades Capture at Casino
Authorities are still searching for two men involved in a confrontation at Paradise Casino in Arizona.
One of the individuals brandished a firearm during the altercation at the gaming venue in Yuma, Ariz.
The incident occurred around 4:30 AM. Both men were instructed to leave the premises by casino staff, according to KYMA, a local television station in Arizona.
Reports indicate that no shots were fired and the cause of the dispute remains undisclosed.
The incident is under investigation by the Quechan Police Department.
Investigation Ongoing for Potential Shooting at Casino Garage
Law enforcement is currently probing a suspected shooting incident that occurred last weekend at the parking garage of Riverwalk Casino Hotel in Mississippi.
The event transpired at approximately 7 AM last Saturday at the casino situated along the Mississippi River.
Initial reports mention an unidentified employee who was allegedly shot in the garage, as per the Vicksburg Daily News, a local media outlet.
The case is being looked into by the Vicksburg Police Department.

Man Faces Charges for Stealing Casino Chips
A man made a court appearance on Tuesday for purportedly pilfering gambling chips from Hollywood Casino in Pennsylvania on December 8.
Macy Wilson, 35, from Baltimore, Md., allegedly grabbed chips from a gaming table, as per law enforcement.
After acquiring the chips, Wilson exited the gaming area through a bus exit at the Grantville, Pa. casino. He then proceeded to the casino’s parking garage, drove away in his car, which was later located by Pennsylvania State Police at an undisclosed hotel.
While troopers were inside the hotel lobby, Wilson walked through and was identified from surveillance footage. When authorities searched his hotel room, they discovered clothing that matched what Wilson wore at the casino and a voucher from the gaming establishment.
Wilson confessed to State Police that he stole the chips, valued at $9,500 according to WHTM, a Pennsylvania TV station. He is facing charges of robbery, theft, and possessing stolen goods, with bail initially set at $500K by Judge Dale Klein.
If convicted, Wilson could be sentenced to incarceration. State Police are also investigating his potential involvement in a criminal operation.
