- A bus en route from Chicago to a Michigan tribal casino has been involved in a serious crash.
- The incident has resulted in multiple injuries, some of which are severe and life-threatening.
On Sunday afternoon, a tour bus making its way from Chicago to a tribal casino in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula crashed in Green Bay, Wisconsin, injuring over two dozen individuals.
Emergency services, including the Green Bay Police and Metro Fire Department, responded to the scene of the collision around 2:45 PM CDT on Sunday, March 22. Reports indicate that the bus, carrying 54 passengers, went off an embankment while exiting I-43 at the Webster Avenue/East Shore Drive exit.
According to the Green Bay Police Department, passengers were taken to one of four local hospitals for care, while others were transported to a reunification site set up at The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center located at 1315 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay.
Reports indicate that 33 individuals sustained injuries. Law enforcement officials are currently conducting an investigation to assess whether charges will be filed against the bus driver.

Casino Bus to the Upper Peninsula
The bus route from Chicago to Michigan includes numerous gambling establishments along the way.
Departing from the Windy City, where Bally’s operates a temporary casino at Medinah Temple, the bus travels for nearly five hours over 310 miles toward Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, passing the Potawatomi Casino Hotel in Milwaukee and two Oneida Casino Hotel venues in Green Bay.
The bus was heading to the Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan, roughly halfway into its journey to the tribal casino when the incident occurred. The Island Resort & Casino is under the ownership and management of the Hannahville Indian Community.
This casino features over 1,100 slot machines, a variety of table games including poker, and a dedicated bingo hall. Additionally, the Island Sportsbook is currently closed after the tribal community entered into an agreement with Hard Rock Bet in December for the management of its online sports betting and iGaming services. Hard Rock Bet is a subsidiary of Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
In addition to the casino, the Island Resort boasts 454 hotel rooms, an RV park, an indoor pool with a waterslide, a full-service spa, eight dining options, a 1,315-seat entertainment venue, a 30,000-square-foot conference center, and an 18-hole golf course.
Overview of Casino Bus Accidents
One of the most tragic casino bus incidents occurred in March 2011 in the Bronx, where a bus returning to New York City from Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut crashed when the driver fell asleep, resulting in 15 fatalities.
More recently, a casino bus returning from Niagara Falls to New York City overturned on I-90 last August, claiming the lives of five individuals. The driver, Bin Shao, faces five counts of criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter, with the case continuing in court. Shao contends that a water bottle slipped and got lodged behind the brake pedal.
