Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort recently celebrated its 17th anniversary with a significant $9.7 million upgrade completed by Paulson Puerto Rico, firmly establishing it as a premier entertainment venue in Puerto Rico.

The anniversary event featured a discussion panel including Rolando Padua, president of Paulson Puerto Rico; Juan Carlos Santaella, Esq., Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission; and Sigfrido De Jesús, the General Manager of Casino del Mar. A ribbon-cutting ceremony showcased the casino’s enhancements and strategic initiatives aimed at fostering ongoing growth within the entertainment, hospitality, and gaming sectors.

“This transformation of Casino del Mar is a component of our broader investment strategy within The Condado Collection, for which we have earmarked $102 million to bolster and diversify tourism offerings in Puerto Rico in the upcoming years,” remarked Padua.

Of the total renovation budget, $3.5 million was allocated for the sports betting section, $1.5 million for the high-limit gaming room, and $250,000 for revitalizing the main entrance. Additionally, $200,000 was designated for security enhancements, restroom improvements, and new digital displays.

New amenities also include a modern entertainment center featuring a stage, specialized tournament machines, and $3.3 million in ongoing modernization initiatives. Casino del Mar has also invested $1 million in new slot machines to enrich its gaming portfolio.

The festivities also heralded the launch of the BetMGM Sports Lounge at La Concha Resort, a cutting-edge sports betting location equipped with high-end technology and large screens. Casino del Mar attracts around 2.4 million visitors each year.

During the event, Santaella emphasized the integral role of the casino sector in the local economy, highlighting that it contributes approximately $215 million annually. This includes $100 million to the University of Puerto Rico, $50 million to the General Fund, and $65 million to tourism initiatives. He underscored the evolution of the Gaming Commission, which has transitioned from primarily a regulatory body to a facilitator of responsible industry growth.

General Manager Sigfrido De Jesús reminisced about the casino’s journey since its inception. Beginning with 145 staff members, Casino del Mar now boasts a team of 216, supported by employee training initiatives that have enabled numerous individuals to rise into leadership positions.

De Jesús acknowledged that Puerto Rico’s casino industry has undergone substantial transformations over the last 17 years, introducing new game types and immersive experiences to attract a more diverse clientele. The addition of sports betting via the BetMGM Sports Lounge has captivated multiple generations of gamers, enhancing the sector’s competitive landscape.

Casino del Mar currently holds the title for the highest betting volume across Puerto Rico.
