The gaming market in Puerto Rico has received significant attention recently, with many properties expanding their offerings. Casino Metro in San Juan is one such property, investing $6.2 million to enhance its gaming and entertainment options, as reported by El Vocero.

Ismael Vega, the general manager, aims to simplify the customer journey through easy navigation and exploration while introducing new gaming options. The expansion initiative, in progress for the past two years, will expand the casino by an additional 7,000 square feet.

Casino Metro plans to keep up with increasing player demand and maintain its status as “the largest casino in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean,” with over 650 gaming machines and six new gaming tables, including four blackjack tables and two roulette tables.

Big Money for Big Rewards

$2.5 million of the $6.2 million investment is allocated to construction, with the remaining $3.7 million going towards acquiring new gaming machines. Vega estimates that an additional 150 machines annually will contribute approximately $2.9 million to ‘Group B’ recipients such as the University of Puerto Rico, the General Fund, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. This qualifies the casino for annual contributions of $24 million to the treasury.

Casino Metro plans to continue modernizing its machine system and further enhancing the customer experience, with a second phase of expansion scheduled for 2024 to include new amenities like bathrooms, an entertainment platform, and a redesigned bar and lounge.

While an official inauguration date is pending, the new initiatives are expected to bring an additional 30 jobs to the casino. The sports betting division, Metro Bets with Caesars Sportsbook, will mark its one-year anniversary in December and is set to bring in more clients through both in-person and online platforms.

San Juan Casinos Catch a Break

Casinos in San Juan are relieved after clarification that the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission’s mandate trumps city law, allowing the casinos to operate without the curfew or liquor sales limitations as stated in the new Public Order Code.

Vega explained that operators will handle alcohol sales responsibly, ensuring a controlled environment while maintaining a superior gaming experience for visitors.
