Child Neglect Case in Arizona
In Arizona, a man named Craig Thomas Opdycke appeared in court on charges of child abuse after allegedly leaving his twins unattended at home while he went gambling. The incident occurred on September 13, when Opdycke left the two-year-old children alone for approximately five hours at a residence in Peoria, Arizona.
Local police were alerted by a concerned resident who spotted the twins outside with a dog. The resident estimated that the children were outside for about 20 minutes before contacting the authorities. When officers arrived, they noticed that the twins had dirty faces, feet, and clothes, as well as soiled diapers that needed changing.
Opdycke initially claimed he was at a restaurant for half an hour but later confessed that he had been at a casino. He admitted to having a gambling addiction. Following his release on his own recognizance, the twins’ mother took custody of the children, and Opdycke’s case is currently pending in state court.
