A 37-year-old Las Vegas man was taken into custody by authorities on Thursday after the discovery of his former roommate’s deceased body in a freezer at their residence.
Daniel Roush is now facing charges of open murder in connection with the discovery of the woman’s body in the locked freezer, according to KLAS, a Las Vegas TV station.
The identity of the 68-year-old victim found in the freezer has not been disclosed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
The woman was last seen in October. A concerned neighbor recently contacted the LVMPD regarding her safety, as mentioned by Lt. Jason Johansson. Johansson also stated that the woman was frequently seen walking her dog before her disappearance.
At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, LVMPD officers arrived at the mobile home on Tres Piedras Road.
Upon receiving no response when attempting to communicate with the woman, the officers entered the residence.
Suspect Displayed Suspicious Behavior
Inside the mobile home, Roush and another individual behaved suspiciously when questioned about the woman, Johansson revealed.
Upon searching the residence, officers noticed a locked chest freezer and sought the services of a locksmith to unlock it. Inside the freezer, they discovered the woman’s deceased body.
An autopsy will likely be conducted to confirm the woman’s identity and determine the cause and manner of her death.
Police stated that the description of the missing woman matched the body found in the freezer.
If convicted, Roush could be sentenced to imprisonment. Additionally, he is facing drug-related charges, according to the police.
It is unclear whether the second individual, an unidentified woman, will also face charges in connection with the case. Reports indicate that she too was apprehended by authorities.
Previous Incident of Deceased Body in Freezer
In a separate incident in 2022, a boy was found deceased in a freezer in Las Vegas.
Suspicions about the victim arose after his mother gave a note to her seven-year-old daughter to deliver to her elementary school teacher.
The note detailed the woman’s abuse by her boyfriend, as stated by police to NBC News. The woman also mentioned that she did not know the whereabouts of her four-year-old son, later identified as Mason Dominguez.
Subsequent to being alerted, the police discovered the deceased boy in the freezer located in the garage of the residence.
The suspect, Brandon Tosel, who was 35 at the time of the incident, was charged with multiple felonies, including murder, child abuse, kidnapping, and domestic violence battery.
He was taken into custody on February 22, 2022, and his court case is ongoing.
The woman who was allegedly abused, along with her two children, had moved into Tosel’s residence on Saddle Brook Park Drive in 2021.
