According to the Delaware News Journal, Delaware State Police were called to the racetrack and casino around 10:30 PM on Sunday, March 8.

A 911 report indicated that two casino visitors were accosted by armed individuals who emerged from a dark Nissan sedan as they approached their vehicles. After handing over money, the victims managed to escape.

Shortly thereafter, another person reported being confronted by two armed men. This victim was struck in the head with a firearm and had their keys stolen.

The vehicle that was taken has since been recovered in Wilmington, but the suspects remain at large.

In Delaware, a vehicle theft involving a firearm is categorized as a Class B felony, which carries a prison sentence ranging from three to 25 years. Delaware State Police urge anyone with information about these robberies to contact them at 302-365-8434 or reach out to Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.

Theft at Casino

With many players leaving casinos with significant cash in hand, robberies in parking lots have become worryingly common.

Last fall, Casino.org covered an incident involving a 60-year-old man who allegedly impersonated a police officer outside the valet area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Real law enforcement arrived after the impersonator jumped into a running Chevrolet Corvette and sped away.

Fortunately, the police managed to apprehend the suspect quickly and recover the vehicle.

Overview of Delaware Park

Delaware Park features over 1,800 slot machines, 40 live dealer table games, alongside a poker room and a sportsbook.

In the 2025 fiscal year (from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025), Delaware Park’s slot machines generated upwards of $169.6 million in gross revenue from over $1.97 billion in wagers, making it the top performer among the state’s three casinos. Additionally, the casino’s table games retained $83.7 million from total bets of $109.9 million, which also led Delaware’s gaming revenue.

The other casinos in Delaware include Bally’s Dover and Harrington Raceway & Casino.

Delaware Park recently wrapped up a $10 million renovation at the beginning of 2024, completely rejuvenating its gaming floor. This included the addition of new slot machines and a vibrant new décor to replace the old dark carpets. Enhanced table game offerings and the launch of a new rewards program were also part of the upgrades.

Last year, Delaware Park further invested $5 million in an outdoor slots patio that accommodates smokers, as Delaware’s legislation prohibits smoking indoors in casinos.
