Dolly Parton has officially scrapped her eagerly awaited Las Vegas residency, which had been postponed in September 2025. In a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram on Monday, the 80-year-old country music icon discussed her battle with multiple chronic health issues, compounded by the emotional strain of grief, as key reasons for stepping back from the limelight.

The planned performances were set for the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on September 17, 19, 20, 23, 25, and 26, 2026.

In her update, Dolly addressed long-circulating rumors about her health, confirming her long-standing struggle with chronic kidney stones. With her characteristic humor, the “Jolene” singer quipped that doctors extract more stones from her annually than a quarry in Rockwood, Tennessee. However, she made it clear that these stones are not the only issue contributing to her current health predicament.

“In recent years, my immune and digestive systems have been severely out of balance,” she shared. Parton linked her physical decline to the profound grief she experienced after the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025. She admitted that the weight of her loss has left her “exhausted,” presenting a health challenge that requires more than simple solutions.

The major obstacle to her return to performing, as Parton noted, is a persistent medication side effect. She described feeling “swimmy-headed,” a state of dizziness that would make her high-energy shows impossible.

“I can’t go out there stumbling in five-inch heels when I’m feeling that way,” she said lightly. “You deserve more than a shaky performance.”

Staying Positive

Despite the unfortunate news regarding her residency, the overall tone of the video remained hopeful. Parton reassured her fans that her condition is “manageable” and that she is “responding positively” to her treatment. She emphasized that her doctors are encouraged by her day-to-day improvements and that she is focused on healing “spiritually, emotionally, and physically.”

Parton wrapped up her message by stressing that she is “not retiring, just recalibrating.” While the bright lights of a Las Vegas residency may be dim for 2026, she is dedicated to her behind-the-scenes endeavors, including her Nashville hotel and museum project, along with her upcoming Broadway production, Dolly: A True Original Musical.

“I’ll be back to my vibrant self soon,” she promised, “but for now, I need to listen to my body and the Good Lord, and they’re both telling me to take a break.”
