In collaboration with Crypto.com’s Derivatives North America (CDNA) division, DraftKings’ enhanced prediction market will feature player proposition bets in a straightforward yes/no format. The emphasis will be on player-specific contracts for NFL and NBA events, potentially paving the way for significant expansion in other areas, including political derivatives.

Alongside a broader array of sports prediction markets, Crypto.com is expected to aid DraftKings Predictions in introducing fresh categories of event contracts, which may encompass culture, entertainment, and politics. Furthermore, upcoming months will see DraftKings Predictions integrate Railbird Exchange, solidifying its service offerings,” a company statement noted.

DraftKings Predictions was launched in December across 38 states, including several where sports betting remains prohibited.

Leagues Might Have Concerns About DraftKings and Crypto.com

Bettors enjoy wagering on metrics like an NBA player’s scoring or an NFL quarterback’s passing yards, and this trend is not overlooked by DraftKings and Crypto.com.

However, integrating player props into prediction markets could attract scrutiny. This development comes shortly after an NBA betting scandal involving Terry Rozier collaborating with organized crime to modify prop bets was uncovered.

This scandal, alongside that of Cleveland Guardians’ relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase, has prompted leagues and certain state regulators to seek enhanced protocols surrounding player prop bets, making the involvement of prediction markets less favorable.

The NFL has expressed concerns regarding the regulatory framework surrounding prediction markets. Conversely, leagues like Major League Soccer (MLS) and the NHL have welcomed event contract platforms; for instance, the NHL has marketing agreements with Kalshi and Polymarket.

Expanding the Sports Event Contract Offerings with DraftKings Predictions

The partnership with Crypto.com is set to enhance the variety of sports event contracts available to users in states where these derivatives are legally permitted, leveraging CDNA’s pioneering role in sports derivatives.

“Through this expansion, DraftKings Predictions will broaden its sports prediction offerings in states where the product is accessible, covering soccer, MMA, golf, boxing, tennis, and Olympic events, complementing existing sports and financial markets supplied by CME Group,” the press release stated.

The states of California, Florida, Georgia, and Texas are among those where DraftKings Predictions provides sports event contracts. Out of these states, only Florida permits mobile sports betting, controlled entirely by Hard Rock.
