DraftKings is optimistic that Missouri voters will support Amendment 2 in November, allowing retail and online sports betting in the state.

DraftKings recently contributed $5 million to Winning for Missouri Education, the committee supporting Amendment 2.

Caesars Entertainment is funding the opposition to Amendment 2 through the committee Missourians Against the Deceptive Online Gambling Amendment. They argue that too many sportsbook entities would have access to the state, jeopardizing their operations.

If Amendment 2 passes, Missouri’s 13 casinos would be allowed retail and online sportsbook privileges, along with sports venues. Additionally, two mobile skins independent of casinos or venues would be established.

Campaign Funds

Caesars Entertainment has spent $4 million to oppose Amendment 2, while DraftKings donated $5 million to support it.

DraftKings’ competitor, FanDuel, has also contributed to the pro-Amendment 2 campaign, raising $16.5 million overall since January.

Amendment 2 emerged due to a lack of agreement among state lawmakers on a sports betting bill in Jefferson City. State Sen. Denny Hoskins was a major factor in the legislative stalemate.

Hoskins believes in allowing more gambling but wants regulations for controversial gray games in various establishments.

State Sen. Caleb Rowden criticized Hoskins for obstructing progress.

Rowden expressed frustration over delaying potential opportunities for the state due to personal interests.

Winning for Missouri Education led the charge in gathering signatures for the referendum, which was verified in August by Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s office.

After overcoming legal challenges, Amendment 2 is set for the November 5 ballot.

Caesars Stance

Caesars Entertainment, one of six commercial casino operators in Missouri, wants to limit sports betting to select entities and control online market access.

Amendment 2 would allow two online sportsbooks without casino partnerships, along with pro sports venues entering the gaming industry in Missouri.
