A motorist in Maryland used a license plate number to win $500,000 in the lottery after being cut off by another car on the highway. The incident took place in Anne Arundel County, Md.
The man was driving back home after a trip when he encountered the other car. He remembered the license plate number and used it to play the lottery.
Instead of holding a grudge, he decided to visit Doc’s F&B Liquors in Glen Burnie, Md., later that day.
At the store, he bought 10 tickets for the “Pick 5” game, as per a Maryland Lottery statement released recently.
The man “played the number straight for $1, getting 10 separate tickets,” the lottery statement mentioned.
“I believe in playing big if you’re going to play,” he told lottery officials later.
After buying the tickets, he went home and went to sleep without checking the results immediately.
The next morning, he checked his tickets using the lottery app on his phone and discovered that he had won $500,000.
He shared the news with his mother, who was also thrilled, according to lottery officials.
Plans for the Winnings
When asked about his plans for the money, he mentioned paying off bills and investing for the future.
He also mentioned that he had played “Pick 5” occasionally before winning the $500,000.
Doc’s F&B Liquors, where he bought the winning tickets, will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery. The store is located in the Burwood Village Center and offers beer, wine, and spirits.
It is unclear whether the man informed Maryland State Police about the incident on the highway. Nevertheless, he learned a valuable lesson from the experience.
“Despite the rules of the road, not everyone is courteous while driving. It’s important to be mindful of other drivers,” the Maryland Lottery statement noted.
