A 34-year-old individual, identified as Keryan Rashad Jones, has been indicted on two counts of capital murder following the shooting incident at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino located in Eagle Pass, Texas, in September.

Authorities allege that Jones discharged his weapon at the tribal casino near the US-Mexico border around 11:45 PM local time on September 27, shortly following a Mercedes-Benz E350 giveaway event held by the casino, owned by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas.
He was apprehended the following morning at his residence in San Antonio, approximately 125 miles northeast of the casino.
Court filings reveal that Jones faces multiple charges, including two counts of capital murder, which may result in the death penalty if found guilty. Additionally, he has been charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, and unlawfully displaying a weapon during an assault.
Tragic Loss
The shooting, which took place on September 27 outside the casino’s primary entrance, resulted in the deaths of Alicia Sanchez, 32, a mother of five, and Marcus Antley, 66, a retired customs agent.
According to the police affidavit, law enforcement officials arrived at the casino at 11:50 PM and discovered seven individuals had sustained gunshot wounds near the entrance.
Authorities were able to track Jones after he fled in a black Nissan Frontier, utilizing camera footage from Texas roadways that captured his route back to San Antonio. License plate recognition technology pinpointed Jones as the suspect.
While details regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting are limited, law enforcement has not disclosed a motive or if Jones had any prior acquaintance with the victims.
Since his arrest, Jones has been held on a $5.1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 7 for arraignment.
Neighbors of Jones described him as a solitary individual with an “angry demeanor.”
“I don’t know him personally, but I’ve seen him around. He appears to have an angry disposition,” commented Isabella Markert, a neighbor, in an interview with KSAT.
Casino Resumes Operations
The Lucky Eagle Casino, which features over 3,300 electronic bingo machines, reopened to the public less than a week post-incident. The casino complex also includes a 249-room hotel, RV parking, a live music venue, five dining options, and three bars.
In response to the tragedy, the tribe has enhanced security protocols, adding a concrete barrier to the entrance where the shooting occurred.
“As we resume operations, we remain dedicated to supporting our team and guests, grateful for the resilience of our community,” the casino stated during its reopening.
