- Ex-security officer alleges years of harassment based on disability
- Lawsuit claims MGM denied necessary accommodations amid investigation
- Plaintiff states casino used fabricated allegations to justify termination
An ex-security officer from MGM Grand Detroit has initiated a lawsuit against the casino, claiming that he endured years of harassment linked to his disability before facing wrongful termination following what he characterizes as a biased internal investigation.

Donald Hall III, who spent nearly 12 years at the casino, contends that both management and coworkers ridiculed his cerebral palsy and speech difficulties, undermining his work capabilities due to his disability. He also has managed epilepsy, reportedly stabilized with medication for over a decade.
The lawsuit asserts that MGM was fully aware of Hall’s condition upon hiring and had previously accommodated him with allowances like additional time for tests and communication support.
Despite consistent positive evaluations throughout his employment, Hall claims the harassment continued, sometimes escalated, against him.
‘Publicly Ridiculed’
The lawsuit describes an incident in late 2022 where Hall was allegedly mocked by a fellow security officer in front of around 30 colleagues, who questioned his job performance. Hall states that, after complaining, he faced pressure from management to retract his statement.
Hall alleges that tensions escalated in August 2023 when an assistant security manager referred to him in a derogatory manner as “a disease.”
After reporting this comment, Hall asserts he became embroiled in a workplace conflict, resulting in harassment claims being directed at him from another employee.
Hall indicates that MGM failed to disclose specific accusations against him, both during his request for a written statement and when he was suspended pending an investigation.
During the inquiry, Hall requested accommodations due to his speech impairment, including interpreter assistance and other support to facilitate communication; however, according to the lawsuit, MGM denied these requests.
Banned from Premises
The complaint further alleges that while Hall was suspended, MGM displayed his employment photograph at security points and instructed personnel that he was barred from the premises, causing him humiliation and stigma before the investigation concluded.
MGM terminated Hall on September 5, 2023, citing breaches of workplace conduct and harassment policies. Hall refutes the allegations, asserting that the investigation served as a mere pretext to dismiss him after enduring years of disability-related discrimination, demands for accommodation, and complaints.
The lawsuit seeks compensation for lost wages, reinstatement or future pay, damages for emotional distress, punitive damages where applicable, and legal fees.
MGM has not yet provided a response to the lawsuit. Casino.org has reached out for comments from the casino, which typically refrains from discussing ongoing legal matters.
