The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has upgraded the threat level for the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, raising it from Level 3 to Level 2. This change signifies a significant event of national and international importance that may require federal interagency support. The increased security measures include explosive detection canine teams, venue screening, field intelligence teams, cyber-risk assessments, air security, and tactical operations support.

US Representative Dina Titus expressed her approval with the increased security support, emphasizing its importance for the success of the upcoming event and the safety of all attendees and participants. The state of Nevada has allocated $331K to enhance Clark County’s security and emergency triage services during the race, with the Nevada National Guard leading the efforts.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill has acknowledged the substantial threat surrounding the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The event is expected to attract over 100K fans, with a racetrack spanning 3.8 miles, including a converted section of the iconic Las Vegas Boulevard.

McMahill remarked, “F1 is, quite frankly, a nightmare for me,” highlighting the challenges posed by its large scale and projected attendance.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Israel has initiated a ground incursion into the Gaza Strip to eradicate the Hamas terrorist organization. This coincides with Titus’ announcement regarding the increased security measures for the Formula 1 event.
