Fanatics, a prominent global platform for digital sports, has successfully obtained an iGaming operator license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This pivotal development positions Fanatics to make its mark in one of North America’s most fiercely competitive online gambling landscapes, featuring 48 licensed operators and 83 gaming websites.

A representative from Fanatics informed Casino.org that further announcements will be made shortly. Currently, Fanatics Sportsbook operates in 22 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., while Fanatics Casino is accessible in four states.
Fanatics will be entering the market alongside recognizable names such as Hard Rock Bet and DAZN Bet, which have launched in Ontario in the past six months.
Fanatics Gears Up for Ontario
“This solidifies Ontario’s status as a frontrunner in regulated online gaming,” remarked a senior industry insider. “Several major operators are yet to make their entry into the Ontario market, and it appears they plan to launch soon.”
“Ontario continues to attract interest due to its strong regulatory environment and appealing commercial conditions, including reasonable tax rates. Each year, iGaming Ontario achieves record earnings, and I anticipate this year will follow suit.”
This also raises concerns about market saturation.
Ontario’s Expanding Market
With over four years of real-money wagering in a competitive open market, facing off against the government-operated Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) platform (Proline), and reporting over $4.2 billion in gross gaming revenue during its fourth year, how much further can Ontario grow?
Additionally, in May, iGaming Ontario and AGCO published an Ipsos study revealing that 91.1% of participants who engaged in online gambling did so on regulated platforms, reflecting a 7.4 percentage-point increase from the previous year’s 83.7%.
Differentiation Becomes Challenging
“Some might argue that the market reached saturation a while back, so new entrants are likely coming in with realistic expectations,” stated Amanda Brewer, Senior Vice President of Policy & Communications at the Canadian Gaming Association.
“As all operators are subject to the same regulations and many provide similar game options, achieving success increasingly relies on delivering a superior user experience and app design, alongside excellent customer service, reward systems, and brand engagement to retain player loyalty. If newcomers believe they possess a unique advantage that hasn’t been recognized by others, I wish them good fortune!”
In this fiercely competitive landscape, Brewer noted that she anticipates any new operator will conduct thorough due diligence, examining the number of Tier 1, 2, and 3 brands, the overall count of operators, and the balance between sports-centric and casino-focused ventures before making well-informed decisions.
“I suspect Fanatics believes it can disrupt the market, much like DAZN,” she concluded.
