In-Arena Marketing Opportunities

The multi-year partnership was announced by FanDuel in a recent press release.

“Collaborating with the Toronto Tempo during their inaugural season is a thrilling opportunity for both FanDuel customers and basketball enthusiasts,” stated Tom Burdakin, Vice President of Marketing at FanDuel. “As an organization that is deeply committed to community engagement and the empowerment of women’s sports, we take pride in supporting a new franchise that will honor fans and advance women’s professional athletics in Canada.”

Since the launch of the Ontario market in April 2022, FanDuel has been proactive in securing igaming sponsorships, particularly through local affiliations with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. This includes betting partnerships with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts, and Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC.

WNBA Expansion Team

These partnerships emphasize marketing strategies, branding initiatives, and exclusive betting features. Additionally, in September 2022, FanDuel announced a multi-year agreement with the WNBA, becoming their Official Sportsbook Partner. FanDuel also serves as the Official Daily Fantasy Partner of the WNBA, running the league’s official daily fantasy game.

“Describing this partnership in one word, I would say it’s transformative,” remarked Lisa Ferkul, Chief Revenue Officer of the Toronto Tempo. “Bringing FanDuel on board is a pivotal achievement for us as we work to establish Canada’s first WNBA team and enhance fan engagement.”

Expect to see unique fan programs for FanDuel customers, along with visibility in-arena and digital promotional activities.

The expansion team is set to kick off their regular season on May 8 at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, taking on the Washington Mystics. In May 2024, the WNBA announced its expansion into Canada, marking the league’s first franchise located outside the United States. Kilmer Sports Ventures is the entity behind this new team, which is the WNBA’s 14th franchise.
