The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) executed a multi-site enforcement operation on January 8, resulting in the confiscation of 231 illegal gaming machines and more than $157,000 in illicit gambling proceeds in Lake County.

Investigative leads from complaints directed Florida authorities to various locations in Lake County. The operation, codenamed Calvin Coolidge, involved search warrants executed at three locations identified as illegal gambling establishments in Umatilla and Leesburg.

“These enforcement measures highlight our dedication to safeguarding Florida’s communities and upholding the integrity of our gaming regulations,” stated FGCC Executive Director Alana Zimmer. “Unlawful gambling activities not only threaten legitimate businesses but also exploit unsuspecting patrons. We are committed to collaborating proactively with law enforcement to eliminate these operations.”

At House of Treasure, located at 37826 FL-19 in Umatilla, the FGCC worked in conjunction with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which acted as the primary agency, according to officials.

Authorities seized 56 illegal gambling machines, including slot machines and fish tables, recovering $75,619 in cash from these machines, as reported by the FGCC. The sheriff’s department issued three Notices to Appear for slot machine possession and maintaining a gambling house.

FGCC agents also executed search warrants at two sites in Leesburg, leading to the confiscation of 175 illegal gambling machines and a total of $82,218.

At Hot Seats, located at 25327 US Highway 27, Unit 202, agents seized 77 illegal gambling machines along with $35,621 in suspected gambling proceeds. Two Notices to Appear were issued for slot machine possession and operating an illegal gambling venue.

At The Hub, located at 3805 West Main Street in Leesburg, agents confiscated 98 illegal gambling machines and $46,597 in cash. Two additional Notices to Appear were issued for similar offenses.

The commission reiterated that gambling machines are only allowed in licensed gaming establishments, noting that legal slot machines can be found in eight authorized pari-mutuel facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, as well as select venues operated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

“Offering slot machine gaming or any unauthorized gambling at unlicensed facilities in Florida is illegal,” the FGCC stated.
