A minor electrical fire broke out on the 36th floor of the Fontainebleau on Sunday evening. Fortunately, no one suffered serious injuries.

At approximately 8:47 p.m., multiple Clark County Fire Department Units responded to a fire at 2777 South Las Vegas Blvd. The department’s statement indicated that the fire originated from an overheated motor in an electric room heater.

The fire was contained within the room and did not spread further.

During the firefighting efforts, guests were temporarily relocated to the resort’s vacant BleauLive Theater.

One guest received treatment for shortness of breath after running down the stairs. The individual was treated on-site and then released.

Historical Connections

The Fontainebleau fire occurred 44 years and 10 days after the tragic MGM Grand hotel fire on November 21, 1980, where 86 people lost their lives. Interestingly, Las Vegas did not mandate sprinklers in all guest rooms on the Strip as a result of that tragedy.

In a previous incident, a rooftop fire occurred at the Fontainebleau on July 22, 2023, just five months before its official opening. Over 90 firefighters in 12 fire engines swiftly extinguished the blaze, which emitted smoke visible for miles.
