Former UFC fighter Nate Diaz has been charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly hitting a Las Vegas security guard this summer, as per court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, the athletics branch of the celebrity media outlet.
The alleged incident occurred on August 25 outside Omnia at Caesars Palace, stated by TMZ, where Diaz, aged 39, and some companions were causing a delay at the cashier line. When a security guard of the nightclub approached to address the issue, Diaz pushed the guard’s face with his open right hand, knocking the glasses off his nose.
The incident is captured in this video posted to X by @SouthlandPost on September 5, which has nearly 100K views as of this writing.
As per the court documents, Diaz and the guard were separated by other security guards. By the time the police arrived, Diaz had already left. Subsequently, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
The case is still ongoing, according to TMZ Sports.
Off-Duty Fights
This wasn’t Diaz’s initial display of his MMA skills in his personal life. In April 2023, the former welterweight headliner subdued Rodney Peterson, a lookalike of Logan Paul, in a street fight in New Orleans.
Diaz was charged with second-degree battery by New Orleans police, but the local district attorney opted to dismiss the case after determining that Diaz acted in self-defense entirely.
Diaz and his older brother, former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz, are admired by MMA enthusiasts for their aggressive fighting style and rebellious nature.
Nate Diaz’s last UFC appearance was in 2022, where he defeated Tony Ferguson in Las Vegas. Following that, he pursued boxing, securing a victory over Jorge Masvidal by majority decision but losing to Jake Paul by unanimous decision.
Diaz has been speculated as a potential challenger to welterweight Conor McGregor in 2025, whose previous UFC fight was in 2021. The UFC rivalry between McGregor and Diaz currently stands at 1-1.
