  • Walker accounted for 6.3% of all bets (4th highest) for Super Bowl MVP at +700.
  • Bettors profit as Seahawks cover the spread.

As we conclude another exhilarating NFL season, let’s recap the standout moments from Super Bowl LX held at Levi’s Stadium in California, where the Seattle Seahawks triumphed over the New England Patriots with a score of 29-13.

Post-game, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye disclosed he received a painkilling injection for his injured right throwing shoulder, which partially accounts for the three turnovers he suffered, including two fourth-quarter interceptions—one resulting in a touchdown for the Seahawks. RB Kenneth Walker III earned MVP honors, rushing for 135 yards on 27 attempts and contributing 26 receiving yards.

Walker had a long touchdown run in the fourth quarter that was nullified by a holding penalty, marking the highest rushing yards in a Super Bowl since Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos amassed 157 yards in Super Bowl XXXII.

A Joyful Bettor

In betting highlights from BetMGM, one big player celebrated a $3 million win after placing a $50,000 bet on the Seahawks when they were at +6000 odds. This bettor also placed $50,000 on the Seahawks at +2800 to win the NFC and another $50,000 at +185 for Seattle to secure a playoff spot.

“Super Bowl bettors rejoiced with the Seahawks covering the spread. The under hitting with only four touchdowns made for a fantastic outcome for us,” remarked Christian Cipollini, Senior Trading Manager at BetMGM.

Additional insights from BetMGM indicated that the victorious Seahawks at -235 garnered 31% of ticket sales and 57% of the total handle; the spread, with the Seahawks favored by -4.5, drew 59% of tickets and 53% of the handle on Seattle. The Total Under 45.5 attracted 55% of tickets and 50% of the handle on the Under. Walker for MVP at +700 accounted for 6.3% of tickets (fourth highest) and 5.3% of handle (also fourth highest).

Super Bowl Again Ends Below Total

Per Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook, favorites are now at an 8-11 SU and 6-13 ATS record in the last 19 Super Bowls. Notably, this marks the sixth occasion in eight Super Bowls where the game went Under the total (set at 45).

“Seattle managed to control the game, making them a popular choice among bettors leading up to the event,” he explained. “Consequently, bettors generally had a successful experience with this matchup. In the days leading to the game, we witnessed significant moneyline bets on the Seahawks at -230, far exceeding typical expectations for a Super Bowl favorite. Although there was some late money on the Patriots’ moneyline, it was still a favorable outcome for Seattle backers overall.”

Defensive Mastery

The defensive performance, particularly from the Seahawks’ squad, was crucial in determining the game’s outcome.

“As anticipated—and backed by the substantial bets we received on the Under all week—the defensive teams emerged as the highlights of the match,” stated Feazel. “An unexpected twist was the strong interest in the live MVP market for Seattle kicker Jason Myers, whose odds plummeted from 75/1 to +380 at one point during the game. The late-game scoring frenzy was unexpected, but the Seahawks clearly dominated throughout.”

At Caesars Sportsbook, the Super Bowl line exhibited little movement throughout the week. Initially, the Total fell from 46.5 to 45.5 within the first day, with late game-day action further nudging it down to 45. The spread remained steady at the crucial number, although some pricing adjustments occurred: the juice shifted by 5 cents, and the moneyline moved from -230 to -240.

Feazel noted that the Coin Toss was one of the simplest markets to price and received no adjustments; both sides were set at -103 from the outset. However, even this straightforward bet garnered significant interest, including two of the largest wagers throughout the Super Bowl.

Looking Ahead to Next Year’s Super Bowl Betting

In the realm of NFL betting, sportsbooks were quick to present odds for the next Super Bowl.

As expected, at theScore Bet, the Seahawks and Patriots attracted the most early attention for the upcoming season’s champion (21.2% of bets and 33.8% of handle for Seattle, and 10.3% of bets and 13.9% of handle for New England). Seattle opened as the +800 favorite, now sharing that status with the LA Rams (who opened at +1000 and currently sit at +800). Other heavily wagered teams include the Bengals, starting at +3500 and now at +2500, and the Lions, who began at +1800 and are currently at +1500. The Patriots started at +1600 and are now at +1500.
