Hard Rock Casino Rockford in Illinois is gearing up to launch a new hotel and convention center, positioning itself as a top-tier destination for leisure and business travelers alike.

Geno Iafrate, president of Hard Rock Rockford, announced that the company is making a significant investment of 15,000 square feet for adaptable event space and a 200-room hotel in Northern Illinois, emphasizing their commitment to the area.
“This hotel and convention center solidifies our dedication to the community and its expanding requirements. We believe this area is poised to compete on a higher level,” stated Iafrate.
“We’re here to stay. Instead, we’re envisioning and constructing the future as the leading entertainment venue in the region,” he further commented.
The permanent Hard Rock Rockford casino opened in August 2024, boasting a vast 175,000-square-foot facility featuring nearly 1,300 slot machines, 50 table games, and a dedicated sportsbook.
Additionally, Hard Rock Live, a concert venue with a capacity of 2,000 guests, forms part of the casino, alongside six diverse restaurants and bars, including the renowned Council Oak Steaks & Seafood.
City to Support Convention Center Financing
The newly planned convention center aims to attract overnight visitors to the soon-to-open hotel. In addition to meeting spaces and guest accommodations, the project will feature a comprehensive spa, fitness amenities, and numerous dining and bar options.
Financing for the initiative will rely on bonds issued by the Rockford City Council’s bonding authority, with Hard Rock repaying the bond debt through revenues generated from convention activities.
“Hard Rock Rockford has been a remarkable partner to our community,” shared Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara. “Enhancing that partnership and expanding its influence necessitates the growth of the Hard Rock campus. We take pride in advancing this relationship to retain visitors and foster long-term revenue growth.”
Home to approximately 150,000 residents, Rockford ranks as the fifth-largest city in Illinois.
Known by the nickname Forest City, notable attractions in Rockford, alongside Hard Rock, include the Anderson Japanese Gardens, Burpee Museum of Natural History, Discovery Center Museum, and Rock Cut State Park. The Burpee Museum showcases Jane, a remarkably well-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, one of the most complete examples globally.
Hard Rock’s Focus on Convention Business
Hard Rock International is optimistic about the convention business, particularly in the Midwest. Alongside its initiatives in Illinois and Rockford, the company has also partnered with Lake County in Northwest Indiana to develop a convention center in Gary.
The company operates Hard Rock Northern Indiana in Gary, where a $100 million convention facility is being created, along with a 300-room hotel at the casino.
