Ontario Betting: Analysis of Fluctuating Odds
While US election betting is not allowed, Canadians can partake in betting on such events.
Ontario, boasting an open iGaming market since 2022, has seen various books offering betting options.
As per a BetMGM trader, the betting odds have been on a rollercoaster ride. Before the Trump-Biden debate in late June, Trump stood at -140, Biden at +175, and Kamala Harris at +5000. Post-debate, with Biden’s poor showing, odds shifted to Trump -175, Biden +400, Harris +3300.
Following Biden’s withdrawal and Harris stepping in, the odds then changed to Trump -200, Harris +200.
Steady Betting Activity at Sportsbooks
Prior to the Trump-Harris debate in September, BetMGM had Trump at -135, Harris +110. Post debate, with Harris perceived as the winner, odds shifted to Trump -110, Harris -120.
Current odds at BetMGM as of Monday morning? Trump +100, Harris -120.
Per the BetMGM trader, since Biden’s exit, 74% of Ontario betting funds have been on Harris.
FanDuel Canada has recently restarted its US Presidential market, with current odds at Harris -112, Trump -102. PointsBet Canada has tighter odds: Harris -118, Trump -106.
Equal Split in Wagers
At DraftKings, Harris stands at -125, with Trump at +100.
It’s been consistent action,” mentioned Johnny Avello, Director of Race & Sportsbook Operations at DraftKings. “Odds fluctuations are expected due to volatility.”
Outside Ontario, on the British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s PlayNow site, Harris carries odds of -125, while Trump is at -105.
A representative for PointsBet Canada noted significant interest in terms of wagered funds and number of bets placed.
“Wagering has been evenly split between Trump and Kamala, with odds fluctuating daily. After an assassination attempt on Trump, he was a favorite. But since then, Kamala’s odds have improved, and now she holds a slight edge,” the representative explained.
