  • Betting action intensifies ahead of UFC Freedom 250 set to take place on the White House lawn this Sunday
  • Ilia Topuria emerges as a leading betting choice against Justin Gaethje in the lightweight title unification fight
  • Alex Pereira faces Ciryl Gane in the heavyweight interim title match

The primary concern for UFC President Dana White as the UFC Freedom 250 event approaches is not the fighters or security measures, but rather the potential for lightning strikes.

Topuria’s Return to the Octagon

This Sunday evening’s event at the White House will showcase seven bouts, including two championship clashes.

“We’re fully prepared for Sunday,” White shared with the Associated Press. “Whether it snows or rains, we are proceeding. If there’s lightning, we’ll wait it out and continue once it passes, just like you would in any sport.”

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alan Reppert forecasts a hot, humid day, noting the morning will likely remain dry.

“By late afternoon and evening, a thunderstorm is possible,” he explained to Casino.org. “The highest risk for storms appears between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., which may bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning interruptions. Expect temperatures to peak at around 94 degrees in the afternoon, dropping to the mid-80s by 8 p.m., while humid conditions persist. The threat of lightning should diminish by midnight as drier air moves in.”

Exciting Line-Up with Two Title Fights

UFC Freedom 250 marks a historic milestone as the first professional sports event to take place on Presidential grounds, inspired by a suggestion from President Donald Trump, who is an avid UFC supporter.

Trump proposed to White the notion of hosting a live outdoor UFC bout next to the White House, tying it into the celebrations for the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.

Although White has typically been opposed to outdoor events, he made an exception for this unique occasion.

Pereira Faces Gane for Heavyweight Supremacy

The focal point of the event features the return of lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, who took a hiatus from UFC last year for personal reasons. He will face interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, who claimed the interim title with a remarkable victory over Paddy Pimblett in January via unanimous decision.

The other title matchup pits Alex Pereira against Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title. The lineup also includes Sean O’Malley against Aiemann Zahabi in bantamweight, Josh Hokit versus Derrick Lewis in a heavyweight clash, Mauricio Ruffy against Michael Chandler in lightweight, Bo Nickal battles Kyle Daukaus in middleweight, and Diego Lopes faces Steve Garcia in featherweight.

Current Betting Odds

“I have high hopes for this fight card,” remarked Brandon Yaeger, Lead Combat Sports Trader at Caesars Sportsbook. “There are uncertainties with the event being on a Sunday, but that means it won’t clash with the NBA Finals for viewership. The fighters on the card are well-known and fan favorites, though the betting odds may limit early action, apart from parlay bets.

“I expect betting interest to escalate on Saturday and Sunday as excitement builds for the fights. So far, activity has been moderate. Initial bets have favored parlays, especially for the title matchups.”

Topuria Holds Strong Betting Advantage

Currently, Topuria is a significant betting favorite at Caesars with odds of -600, while Gaethje is listed at +430. The other title fight between Pereira and Gane is a pick ’em at -110. Lopes is at -160 against Garcia who is at +135, with Nickal at -360, Daukaus at +280. Ruffy is favored at -700 over Chandler (+500), Hokit comes in at -400 against Lewis (+310), and O’Malley is a -450 favorite, with Zahabi at +350.

“I anticipate this event will exceed attendance and interest for nearly every major card this year, aside from the McGregor International Fight Week,” Yaeger added. “The prominent names featured here should still captivate a sizeable audience. Of course, an Alex Pereira title bout aiming for monumental history with a pick’em opener should attract considerable betting action by itself. The key question is how a seven-fight card will respond compared to the traditional 11-13 fight lineup.”

Popular Betting Props

At BetMGM, the most bet-on fights include Topuria-Gaethje, Pereira-Gane, and Hokit-Lewis, with popular choices being Gaethje (+425), Chandler (+500), and Lewis (+310). Top betting props feature Topuria in Round 1 at +150, Topuria in Round 2 at +325, Garcia by Decision/Technical Decision at +550, Gaethje by KO/TKO or DQ at +600, and Topuria to win within 60 seconds or less at +950.

“UFC Freedom 250 has considerable favorites on paper; hence, the sportsbook will seek at least one major upset to prevent heavy chalky parlay bets,” mentioned Alex Rella, Trading Manager at BetMGM. “With only one fight projected to go the distance, it seems fans are betting on these matches to finish before the judges intervene.

“Looking ahead to the main event, it’s no surprise that Justin Gaethje is the top underdog of the night, while Topuria aims to KO a fourth legend consistently. The co-main event is currently a pick’em, but public sentiment is heavily leaning toward Alex Pereira, which I expect will continue to strengthen as event day nears.”
