Illinois: Penn launches new $185 million land-based Hollywood Casino in Joliet

PENN Entertainment has officially unveiled its new $185 million Hollywood Casino Joliet in Illinois, replacing the city’s iconic riverboat casino along the Des Plaines River.

The expansive facility covers approximately 189,000 square feet, housing 1,000 slot machines, 43 table games, an ESPN BET retail sportsbook, and an array of prominent dining establishments. The casino creates around 600 jobs and has generated approximately 450 construction positions.

“After roughly 20 months of development, we are excited to launch this land-based entertainment venue,” stated Jay Snowden, CEO and President of PENN. “We take pride in our three-decade legacy in Will County and are dedicated to further investing in the community by generating new employment opportunities and enhancing tax revenue while attracting more visitors to the region.”

The gaming area offers an array of games, including blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, alongside the ESPN BET sportsbook, which boasts one of Chicagoland’s largest screens. The sportsbook also features betting kiosks and a restaurant catering to 185 guests.

The grand opening gathered state legislators, Illinois Gaming Board representatives, local officials, Bears executives, and NFL star — and Joliet native — Tom Thayer. Following a morning ribbon-cutting ceremony, the venue welcomed the public at 4 p.m.

Joliet Mayor Terry D’Arcy emphasized the casino’s prime location and its potential to attract new clientele during the opening ceremony, as reported by Shaw Local.

He characterized it as “a significant attraction for our residents and the surrounding area,” noting that its strategic position at the crossroads of I-55 and I-80 — dubbed the “crossroads of Mid-America” — is set to draw visitors nationally.

Beyond gaming, the new Hollywood Casino Joliet features six restaurants accessible to all ages.

Among its highlights are Sorellina by Giada, an elegant Italian-California cuisine venue helmed by celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis; Boulevard Food & Drink Hall, showcasing Chicago favorites such as Antique Taco and Pretty Cool Ice Cream, along with offerings from James Beard Award-winners Shawn McClain and Stephanie Izard; Red Lotus Asian Kitchen, focusing on custom-made Asian dishes; and &Vine, a vibrant bar and entertainment lounge with a capacity of 100 guests.

The establishment also includes a 10,000-square-foot event center ideal for concerts, weddings, and community gatherings.

Additionally, the casino integrates PENN Entertainment’s extensive loyalty program, providing members with exclusive perks, tier benefits, and various promotions, including special advantages for military personnel, veterans, and first responders.

Hollywood Casino Joliet operates 24/7, ensuring continuous entertainment.
