The recent discovery of five puppies, that were found in a trash bag inside a Las Vegas dumpster, has resulted in the arrest of a man.
The puppies emitted a chlorine odor when discovered on November 5 at an apartment complex on Charleston Boulevard. Authorities later determined that the substances dropped on the puppies were bleach and another cleaning fluid.
Michael Grindrod, 39, of Las Vegas was arrested on November 6 and is facing charges of animal abuse, as reported by Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
He remains in custody as of Tuesday and is also suspected in an auto theft case.
The individual was being evicted from a residence and had recently lost his job, according to the report.
In addition to the five puppies found in the dumpster, he also had three others and the mother of the dogs, named Zoey.
The dogs were rescued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) and were placed with The Animal Foundation, a local shelter, and then transferred to an organization called Wagging Tails Rescue, according to KLAS.
The group is referring to the eight puppies and the mother as “Zoey and her Zoo.” Each puppy will be named after an animal.
All eight puppies and their mother are expected to make a full recovery. However, a ninth puppy had to be euthanized after blood was discovered in its chest.
The Animal Foundation can assist in rehoming unwanted dogs and other pets in the Las Vegas area, as well as provide food for animals. The foundation’s hotline is 702-955-5932.
