Numerous employment opportunities are available in Bossier City, Louisiana as The Cordish Companies prepares to unveil its $270 million renovation of the former Diamond Jacks property.
The Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana by Cordish is set to open in the first quarter of 2025. In anticipation of the new casino and the renovation of the resort and hotel, approximately 750 positions need to be filled.
John Chaszar, executive vice president and general manager of Live! Louisiana, stated, “We are building an exceptional team at Live! Louisiana. Whether you’re a seasoned industry professional or looking to start a new career, now is the perfect time to apply. Our goal is to hire a diverse group of talented team members and provide them with the training and development opportunities needed to succeed.”
Chaszar emphasizes that there are job openings for various roles, including hotel and gaming operations, finance, marketing, human resources, information technologies, food and beverage, facilities, security, and surveillance.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available in all departments and shifts, according to Chaszar.
Cordish estimates that its Live! Louisiana workforce will receive $34 million annually in salaries, wages, and tips, equating to approximately $45,333 per employee on average. In contrast, the average worker in Bossier City earned less than $30,800 in 2022 according to the US Census Bureau.
Chaszar added, “This will have a significant impact on both individual livelihoods and the regional economy.”
Market Improvement
Cordish and state officials at the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) aim to revitalize the Bossier City/Shreveport gaming market through the company’s $270 million investment.
During the state’s 2024 fiscal year (July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024), the gross gaming revenue (GGR) from the five operating casinos in Bossier/Shreveport reached around $517.7 million. Before the pandemic, the market’s GGR totaled over $626.4 million in 2019. In 2016, GGR was nearly $667 million.
Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, which permanently closed Diamond Jacks during the pandemic, indicated to state officials that the market was oversaturated and no longer suitable for reinvestment. Following the acquisition of the property by Cordish, the aged riverboat was sold off, and the Louisiana Gaming Control Board granted permission to construct a new brick-and-mortar casino.
Ronnie Johns, former chairman of the LGCB who retired in May after a lengthy tenure, praised Cordish as the best-case scenario for revitalizing Diamond Jacks.
Exciting Developments
The new land-based casino at Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana spans 47,000 square feet and features over 1,000 slot machines and electronic table gaming positions, 40 live dealer tables, and a sportsbook.
Renovations are underway for all 550 hotel guestrooms, as well as the resort pool and fitness center. The meeting rooms totaling 25,000 square feet and restaurant spaces totaling 30,000 square feet are also being updated. An RV park with paved concrete pads and full hookups is also in the works.
