An eye-catching advert on the freelance site Upwork has stirred discussions within the sports betting realm, as it seeks a graphic designer to create counterfeit FanDuel betting slips.

The posting only detailed the fraudulent intent as being “for marketing and production presentation.” It’s thought that such fake betting slips are often utilized to endorse picks and mislead followers of betting influencers on platforms like social media.
Listed under the title “Graphic Artist Required to Imitate Sportsbook Ticket Design (Long-Term Opportunity),” the advertisement was created by a client from Ontario, Canada. The job offered a wage between $15 and $30 per hour for remote work, estimated at 30 hours weekly, spanning a duration of 1-3 months with possibilities for lasting employment.
“I’m in search of a talented graphic designer who can … produce ticket replicas that are indistinguishable from authentic ones, albeit with adjusted figures as specified,” stated the posting.
Although it was marked “no longer available” within 24 hours of its initial posting, it is still accessible on Upwork.
Industry Reactions
Eric Pauly, co-founder of the sports betting analytics service BetSmart, shared the listing link on his X account (@slimeaction) on September 16 after being informed about it by a friend. His tweet quickly garnered attention from worried users.
“There are too many fraudsters in this industry,” remarked @DataBasedBets. “This is outrageous. I would never consider doing something like this.”
“I hope someone investigates this and manages to trace the individual behind it,” added @TheFav_orite.
Pauly also uncovered another suspicious job listing from the same Upwork client, which sought a freelancer based in the US to place FanDuel wagers on the client’s behalf. The work entailed utilizing the client’s research to create “unique home runs and first basket” parlays, with compensation ranging from $100 to $250 weekly.
It’s essential to recognize that proxy betting—wagering on behalf of someone else—is illegal in many US jurisdictions where sports betting is permitted. Breaching these regulations may lead to account suspensions or legal repercussions.
This incident underscores ongoing worries regarding unethical practices within the sports betting industry.
