An enthusiastic crowd showed up Sunday evening at Las Vegas’ Expo at World Market Center to hear Vice President Kamala Harris, D, explain why she should be elected president in November.

An estimated 7,500 supporters frequently cheered and clapped for Harris’ second appearance in Las Vegas since she got the nomination.

“It’s so wonderful to be back in Nevada,” she told Sunday’s crowd during the 27-minute speech which took place 37 days before the election.

We know this will be a tight race until the very end,” Harris said. “We are the underdogs.”

“We have some hard work ahead,” she acknowledged. “But here’s the thing. We like hard work. Hard work is good work… And with your help, we will win in November. Yes, we will.”

Harris said she will be victorious because the “election is about two very different visions for our nation.”

Former President Donald Trump, R, has the “same old tired playbook” with no plan on “how he would address the needs of the American people,” she said.

Harris’ Vision for US

But her vision includes:

  • Bringing down the cost of living
  • Investing in small businesses
  • Protecting reproductive freedom

She highlighted such positions as: a $50K tax deduction to help entrepreneurs start a small business; building 3M new homes with first-time home buyers getting $25K in assistance; stopping corporate price gouging; and more tax credits for households especially those with young children.

“I will always put the middle class and working families first,” Harris said. “I come from the middle class and I will never forget where I come from.”

She contrasted her positions to Trump’s, who she said will give massive tax cuts to corporations and billionaires.

She also claimed he will cut Social Security and Medicare, and end the Affordable Care Act.

She also wants comprehensive immigration reform. That includes strong border security, a pathway to citizenship for migrants, and stopping the flow of fentanyl coming into the US.

On two other issues she highlighted how she is pro-choice on abortion and appears to support “smart” and “common sense” gun safety laws.

Harris has gotten the backing of the Culinary Union, which represents hospitality workers.

She didn’t highlight ending the tax on tips during Sunday’s campaign appearance. It’s a position both she and Trump support.

Trump also has appeared in Las Vegas with supportive crowds. He has criticized Harris and President Joe Biden’s approach to such areas as the economy, crime, immigration, rights, and foreign policy. He also says Harris doesn’t speak truthfully when summarizing his political positions.

Race Is Tight

The race between the two candidates in Nevada is very close, according to recent public opinion polls.

A new Rasmussen poll said Trump edges Harris by 1 point in Nevada.
