Reality television stars Kim Zolciak, 45, and her estranged husband Kroy Biermann, 38, are currently going through a highly publicized and contentious divorce, which is revealing their dire financial situation. In recent legal filings, Biermann points the blame primarily at his wife.
During his career, Biermann played eight seasons as a linebacker for the NFL Atlanta Falcons. However, he is now widely recognized for being married to Zolciak, an original cast member of the popular reality TV series, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which debuted in 2008 on Bravo.
Biermann and Zolciak first met at a charity event in 2010 and soon started a relationship. They tied the knot in November 2011 at their home in Roswell, Ga. The couple has four children together.
Earlier this year, Biermann filed for divorce, leading to a highly contentious legal battle filled with accusations from both parties.
Zolciak’s Gambling Problem
Biermann has consistently claimed that his wife suffers from a gambling addiction. In June, Casino.org reported on Biermann’s allegations that Zolciak spent a significant amount of time and marital funds on gambling.
Zolciak’s daughter, Brielle Bierman, even tweeted in 2020 about an incident when she was 20 years old. According to Brielle, her mother took her to a casino in North Carolina in the middle of the night.
Once they arrived at the casino, likely Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River, Brielle claimed that her mother spent hours gambling while she had to wait in the car because she was underage.
While Zolciak has repeatedly denied having a gambling problem in media interviews, Biermann has reaffirmed his accusations with a new legal filing.
Biermann contends that the couple is now in a state of financial destitution primarily due to his wife’s reckless spending habits and love for online gambling.
According to Biermann, their Georgia home currently has a tax lien of $1.1 million for unpaid taxes. He also mentions a lawsuit brought against them by Capital One for Zolciak’s $150,000 debt accrued on a Saks credit card.
While Biermann does take some responsibility for their dire financial situation, he states that he is facing litigation from Baha Mar casino in the Bahamas. Apparently, the resort provided Biermann with a $100,000 line of credit for a trip in November 2021, during which he allegedly lost $52,500 and never repaid the funds.
A Toxic Home Environment
Due to their financial circumstances, Biermann and Zolciak are still living under the same roof as their messy divorce unfolds.
Biermann’s attorneys highlight the harmful effects of the toxic environment on the couple’s children. They describe instances where Zolciak called the police to mediate unnecessary arguments between the couple, including one incident where Biermann denied her access to the master bathroom while he was showering.
Biermann is now seeking court intervention to appoint a judicial officer for an upcoming hearing to address the sale of their marital residence. He accuses Zolciak of intentionally delaying the matter to remain in the house.
“Zolciak has stated that she will not move and therefore will not cooperate in any attempt to sell the marital residence,” Biermann’s attorneys state. “Unfortunately, she is too self-absorbed to realize the impact her actions will continue to have upon the minor children.”
