- Kubiak confirms coaching move during NFL Network interview after Super Bowl victory
- Kubiak recognized for rejuvenating Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold’s career
- Raiders expected to select Heisman Trophy QB Fernando Mendoza in the upcoming NFL draft
Following last night’s Super Bowl triumph, Klint Kubiak officially announced during an NFL Network interview on the field at Levi’s Stadium that he will be taking on the head coaching role with the Las Vegas Raiders.

“You all know I’m heading to Las Vegas, and I’m excited about it,” he stated. “Absolutely, I’m going … let’s just enjoy tonight.”
Raiders Conclude Season with 3-14 Record
Kubiak, previously the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, has played a significant role in revitalizing quarterback Sam Darnold’s career. Darnold, now with the Seahawks, showcased his skills during last night’s commanding 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. Many expected Darnold’s tenure with the Vikings last season would lead to an exit.
Owner Mark Davis aimed to revitalize the Raiders’ legacy (as they haven’t clinched a playoff win since January 2003) by appointing the NFL’s oldest coach, 74-year-old Pete Carroll, and orchestrating a trade to bring Geno Smith from the Seahawks.
Mendoza Set to be Top Draft Choice
Finishing the recent season with a dismal 3-14 record, the Raiders hold the coveted No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft on April 23. Barring an unexpected turn of events, they are poised to draft Heisman Trophy winner QB Fernando Mendoza, who recently led the Indiana Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Currently, Mendoza’s odds at DraftKings to be the first overall pick stand at -8000, while FanDuel lists it at -7000.
By selecting Mendoza and appointing the 38-year-old Kubiak, Davis seems geared towards a gradual rebuilding process. The Raiders also have an impressive cap space exceeding $91 million, ranking second in the NFL, as reported by overthecap.com.
Significant Salary Cap
This past regular season, the Seahawks ranked prominently among the top teams in various offensive metrics—6th in yards per game (337.3), 8th in passing yards per game (207), 4th in rushing yards per game (130.3), and 1st in points per game (33.7).
That cap space will likely increase if rumors about the Raiders parting ways with star defensive end Maxx Crosby, who earns over $35 million annually, turn out to be true.
Tom Brady, the minority owner of the Raiders and a Fox broadcaster, along with general manager John Spytek, has been at the forefront of the search for Carroll’s successor.
“Klint’s a fantastic choice. He’s not only a great person but also very intelligent. I genuinely believe he will achieve remarkable success in Vegas,” stated Darnold.
