Ontario sportsbooks are entering a new phase as Game 1 of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers kicks off tonight at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.

Proline Reports Record Sales for Blue Jays Bets

The Blue Jays last appeared in a World Series in 1993, marking their last championship win with Joe Carter’s unforgettable home run.

Betting action for the Blue Jays has surged throughout Ontario. A representative from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Proline indicated that Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday, which featured the Mariners and the Blue Jays, was the highest grossing MLB game since the inception of Proline+. Sales for this game soared to five times that of the 2025 regular season opener.

At the beginning of the season, the Blue Jays were at +6100 odds to clinch the World Series, while the Dodgers were set at +500. Following their victory against the Mariners, the Blue Jays’ odds now stand at +275 compared to the Dodgers’ +145.

888 Sport Offers Early Payouts for Blue Jays Fans

Ontario sportsbooks have seen significant wagers placed on the Blue Jays, fueled by home-team pride and a strong national sentiment.

In July, I placed a $40 bet on the Blue Jays to secure the World Series, anticipating a payout of $1400 at that time, but I initially didn’t consider cashing out.

Most sportsbooks feature a cashout option directly on the bet slip, usable at the bettor’s discretion. However, I decided to take my cashout in September, prior to the playoffs, after Blue Jays’ standout shortstop Bo Bichette was injured, allowing me to cash in for approximately $150.

Insight from the Trader on Cashout Options

An interesting development today at 888 Sport: those who wagered on the Blue Jays to win the World Series before the regular season commenced will receive payouts as if the Jays have already triumphed. However, this appears more as a promotional strategy than a risk management technique.

“Blue Jays fans are renowned for their fierce loyalty and dedication to the team, and we wanted to acknowledge that steadfast spirit,” stated Billy Cook, Head of Sports at 888. “Offering these early payouts is our way of honoring the unwavering support shown by fans throughout the season, regardless of the final outcome.”

As for the cashout options?

“As a bookmaker, I wouldn’t regard that information as a safeguard against liabilities,” noted Phill Gray. “Currently, the Jays are +180 to win the WS (with a 35.7% probability). I’m content to hold that position, feeling confident in our predictive stance. Some books may decide to offset large amounts with other outlets if they feel anxious about potential significant losses. For instance, if the odds flipped and the Jays were at -215 (69% chance), I would become quite concerned.”

Dodgers as Betting Favorites in World Series Game 1

Gray explained that years past often saw offshore sportsbooks placing bets on opposite sides of high-risk events, particularly at major no-limit sportsbooks like Pinnacle.

He further stressed that today’s sportsbooks are equipped to manage large liabilities, adopting a “we’ll ultimately prevail” philosophy, as the vigorish applies to every bet, and the substantial wins often mitigate the larger defeats.

In terms of Game 1 betting outlook, the Blue Jays confirmed this morning that Bo Bichette has returned to the lineup, having missed the playoffs due to a knee injury. Rookie Trey Yesavage will take the mound for the Blue Jays in Game 1, while the Dodgers have announced Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto as their starters for the initial two games.

Bichette’s presence in the Jays’ batting order cannot be overstated (.311 batting average, 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, .840 OPS). Commentator Buck Martinez remarked on Sportsnet: “He’s an exceptional hitter. Possibly one of the finest I’ve ever seen when it comes to facing elite pitchers.”

If the Jays choose to designate him as a DH, that necessitates George Springer, who is also nursing an injury from a pitch that struck his knee during the ALCS, to occupy the outfield position.

“Even at 80%, Bo Bichette is still a tremendous asset,” Martinez stated. “He ranks among the top hitters in the game. If we can utilize him regularly in this lineup, rather than as a pinch hitter, that would be ideal.”

Current Betting Lines

BetMGM lists the Dodgers at -220 to clinch the entire championship, while the Blue Jays stand as +180 underdogs. Betting data indicates that a majority of wagers placed at BetMGM favor the Blue Jays.

For Game 1 set for tomorrow night, the Dodgers are positioned at -154 on the moneyline, while the Jays are sitting at +130, with the spread favoring L.A. at -1.5 (+115) and the Jays at +1.5 (-135). The Over/Under is at 7.5 (-115 on Over, -105 on Under).

A representative from PENN Entertainment stated that at theScore BET, since the World Series matchup was officially announced (post-ALCS Game 7 on Monday), 71.1% of bets and 80.6% of the total handle have been on the Blue Jays. For Game 1 specifically in Ontario, 84.6% of bets and 82.3% of the total handle are siding with the Blue Jays’ money line.

In the United States, PENN’s ESPN BET reflects that since the confirmation of the matchup, 61.2% of bets on the series winner and 90.1% of the total handle are betting on the Dodgers. For Game 1, the Dodgers hold 54.9% of both the bets and the handle at -1.5.

“Following their Game 7 victory that secured a spot in the World Series, the Blue Jays have attracted the most betting interest across all states to win it. However, due to actions prompted by their free agency maneuvers both prior to and during the season, the Dodgers have also garnered significant support, positioning the Blue Jays as the favorable outcome for BetMGM in the Fall Classic,” remarked Matthew Rasp, Senior Trader at BetMGM.
