- North Las Vegas’ Poker Palace Casino is set to reopen in mid-April

A North Las Vegas casino that shut down last fall has been revamped and will soon relaunch with a new name.
After more than fifty years in operation, Poker Palace Casino at 2757 Las Vegas Blvd. in North Las Vegas ceased operations on September 30, 2025. The Coleman family, who owned the intimate local casino since its inception in 1974, sold the nearly five-acre property to Truckee Gaming based in Reno.
Fortunately for local Las Vegas residents who were concerned about potential redevelopment for housing, Truckee Gaming announced plans to renovate and reinstate the casino. This week, Truckee Gaming’s founder and CEO, Ferenc Szony, informed the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) that renovations at Poker Palace are nearing completion.
Introducing the New Casino Name: Club Fortune North
In pursuit of a comprehensive gaming license that includes race and sports betting options, Szony expressed to the NGCB that Truckee’s investment aims to reestablish the Poker Palace site as a desirable location for locals.
“It resembled a crossover between Circus Circus and Excalibur,” Szony remarked, comparing it to lower-end resorts on the Strip. “A major transformation was essential.”
Szony detailed that the renovation was extensive, resulting in a much more contemporary aesthetic.
He also disclosed the new casino name: Club Fortune North. With approval from the Board, Truckee is planning a mid-April reopening.
Truckee operates ten casinos in Nevada, including the Club Fortune Casino in Henderson, with the two properties located just 16 air miles apart.
Encouraging Signs for Local Casinos
Even though the Las Vegas Strip faces challenges, reporting stagnant gaming revenue in 2025 and a 7.5% decline in visitor numbers compared to 2024, the growing population in Southern Nevada has boosted demand for local casinos. These establishments cater specifically to residents with smaller venues and neighborhood dining, providing a more convenient alternative to the bustling Strip or downtown.
The rising optimism for local casinos is particularly evident on the southern side of the Strip, where Boyd Gaming recently announced the upcoming launch of its new Jokers Wild casino, Cadence Crossing. Meanwhile, Truckee is setting its sights on the northern sector. Szony, who grew up in North Las Vegas, mentioned that the area is experiencing notable growth.
Post-pandemic, Southern Nevada has emerged as one of the quickest growing regions in the United States. Since 2019, the population of Las Vegas has surged by 16%, increasing from approximately 2.62 million to about 3.04 million.
According to the US Federal Housing Finance Agency, the average selling price for single-family homes in Las Vegas, Henderson, and Paradise has soared by 61%, rising from $232,700 in Q4 2019 to $374,400 in Q3 2025. This influx of affluence is heavily influenced by Californians relocating to Southern Nevada.
