Managed by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, the casino plans to welcome back guests tomorrow, October 3, at 10 AM local time. This reopening occurs five days after a 34-year-old male opened fire inside the venue, fatally injuring a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent and a local resident.

Keryan Jones is currently held in custody with a bond set at $4.5 million, which includes $1.5 million for each capital murder charge and $300,000 for every aggravated assault charge.

The reason behind the shooting remains unknown, with authorities reporting that Jones is currently in solitary confinement.

Reopening Strategy for the Casino

Kickapoo Lucky Casino will resume operations across its extensive range of more than 3,300 electronic bingo machines tomorrow. Guests can also enjoy bingo, poker, a 249-room hotel, an RV park, a live music venue, five dining establishments, and three bars.

“As we reopen, our commitment lies with our team and guests. We are grateful for the resilience of our community and look forward to welcoming everyone back,” states the casino’s official webpage.

Witness testimonies reveal that Jones began firing shots around 11:45 PM during a promotion event that attracted more visitors, offering a chance to win a Mercedes-Benz E350. During the event, a lucky player won a $3,500 cash prize right at the time of the shooting.

Following the incident, authorities revealed that Jones fled the scene in a black Nissan Frontier. Law enforcement tracked the vehicle using license plate recognition technology and ultimately apprehended him on Sunday morning in Stockdale, around three hours from Eagle Pass, following a dramatic high-speed chase involving multiple police units and gunfire.

Victims of the shooting included retired customs agent Marcus Antley, 66, and Alicia Sanchez, 32, a mother of five.

University Health in San Antonio reported treating two patients from the shooting incident involving the Lucky Eagle Casino—a 22-year-old woman who has since been discharged and a 59-year-old woman who remains hospitalized but is in stable condition.
