A man from Los Angeles, who was stung by a scorpion lurking in his bed linens at a casino off the Strip, is contemplating legal action.

Sulaiman Lutale was staying at Silver Sevens Hotel and Casino, previously known as Terribles, during a business trip in May 2025. He shared with 8 News Now that as he settled down for the night, he was stung by an Arizona bark scorpion, recognized as the most dangerous scorpion species in the U.S.

The sting of this particular scorpion can be life-threatening, although fatalities are rare. Symptoms include intense, immediate pain, muscle spasms, and in severe cases, trouble breathing or swallowing.

The Offender Eliminated

Lutale’s companion managed to film the offender on the hotel floor before it was squashed and killed.

After being stung on his arm, Lutale was left with permanent scars. While he desires a resolution without diving into legal battles, he aims to bring awareness to ensure hotel staff conducts thorough safety checks. He reported that Silver Sevens never issued an apology.

While Silver Sevens may be considered a more budget-friendly option among Las Vegas hotels, safety standards remain paramount,” said Lutale’s attorney, Brian Virag from My Bed Bug Lawyer, in an interview with 8 News Now. “The price of lodging should never compromise safety.”

Sadly for those visiting Las Vegas, bark scorpions, named for their tendency to inhabit areas beneath tree bark, can ascend walls, ceilings, luggage, and curtains, occasionally finding themselves in beds or bathrooms.

However, the chances of encountering one are quite low, thanks to the extensive pest management measures and well-sealed, climate-controlled environments maintained by notable Las Vegas hotels.

Psychological Impact

Nevertheless, some individuals simply have misfortune on their side. In August 2024, a man filed a lawsuit against the Venetian after he claimed he was stung on the genitals by a scorpion while sleeping.

Michael Farchi from Agoura Hills, California, alleged in his case that the sting resulted in erectile dysfunction, PTSD, and significant emotional distress.

Farchi confided to KLAS that the staff at the Venetian dismissed his report of the medical incident.

“They were just laughing and holding their groin areas,” he recounted.
