Maverick Gaming is set to shut down Washington’s Silver Dollar Mill Creek Casino in Bothell and Crazy Moose Mountlake Casino in Mountlake Terrace on July 31, which will lead to the termination of 123 jobs, as stated in WARN filings.
The shutdown will affect 41 individuals at Silver Dollar Mill Creek Casino and 82 at Crazy Moose Mountlake Casino, reports The Seattle Times. Job roles impacted include table game dealers, cashiers, bartenders, and security personnel.
This announcement follows Maverick Gaming’s bankruptcy filing in July of last year, which resulted in the closure of four additional cardrooms in the Seattle region: Dragon Tiger Casino in Mountlake Terrace, Palace Casino in Lakewood, Silver Dollar Casino in Renton, and Roman Casino in Seattle.
According to Washington law, commercial cardrooms are allowed to operate table games, while bars and taverns can provide pull-tab gambling. Native American tribal casinos maintain exclusive rights to operate slot machines and conduct sports betting within the state.
Maverick informed the Washington State Employment Security Department on September 26 about its intention to permanently close both casinos, initially proposing a December 2 shutdown date, as disclosed by HR director Christine Wisniewski.
However, the closures were delayed as the company explored a potential sale of the properties during ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
“The site remained operational at that time as Maverick Washington LLC was engaged in negotiations for the possible sale of the site to a buyer,” the notice indicated.
