Millionaire for Life is a nightly nationwide drawing, boasting odds of 1 in more than 22.9 million for winning the $1 million yearly prize. Remarkably, the top award has been won twice in just three months.

The latest winner hails from New York, where state lottery officials report that a $5 Millionaire for Life ticket was purchased at the Price Chopper supermarket in Richfield Springs, located at 1 Main Street.

The successful ticket aligned perfectly with all six drawn numbers on Thursday, May 21. The winning numbers were 3, 15, 16, 24, 28, and the Millionaire Ball was 4.

Double the Millionaires for Life

The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), a nonprofit, oversees Powerball and represents its 48 member jurisdictions.

Millionaire for Life made its debut on February 22, offering players a daily chance to win. Unlike Powerball, which is drawn three times a week at 10:59 pm ET, Millionaire for Life takes place each night at 11:15 pm ET, allowing participants extra time to play.

The recent drawing marked the second time the Millionaire for Life jackpot has been claimed, following an Ohio player who won on April 27. That ticket was sold at the Giant Eagle supermarket in Cleveland at 15325 Edgecliff Avenue and remains unclaimed.

Both jackpot winners have the choice between receiving an annual payout of $1 million or a lump sum cash option totaling $18 million. They will also experience a federal tax of 37%, with the Ohio winner facing a 2.75% state tax, while the New York winner will incur a 10.9% state tax, the highest in the nation.

Ohio Lottery rules allow winners 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize, while the New York Millionaire for Life winner has a full year to claim theirs.

Guaranteed Income for Millionaire for Life Winners

To ensure that winners who unexpectedly pass away can still provide for their heirs, MUSL has instituted a guarantee that those who opt for the annuity will receive $1 million for a minimum of 20 years.

Thus, if a winner dies after just a couple of years, their estate will continue to disburse $1 million annually for the remaining 18 years. This, known as the 20-year guarantee, also applies to the second-tier prize of $100,000 per year for life.

The $100,000 annual prize was also claimed during the May 21 drawing, with a ticket from Michigan achieving the odds of 1 in over 5.72 million to choose between the $100K per year for life or a one-time cash payment of $2.2 million.
