October marked a record-breaking month for mobile sports betting in New York, with wagers hitting an impressive $2.64 billion, reinforcing the state’s position as the leader in the nation for online betting, as reported by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) on Thursday.
This month’s betting total surpassed the previous U.S. high of $2.49 billion, set by New York in January, and signifies the third month in a row that the state’s eight mobile operators have collectively surpassed $2 billion in wagers. Since the launch of mobile wagering in January 2022, this was also the 14th month where the total exceeded that limit.
Mobile betting activities increased by 13.9% year-over-year, driven by two remarkably strong weeks concluding on October 26 and November 2, each exceeding $650 million. Additionally, the weekends ending on October 5 and October 19 also ranked among the top ten for all-time weekly handles, bringing in $591.7 million and $564.3 million, respectively.
Operators experienced a combined hold of over 9%, resulting in $238.7 million in revenue for the month, reflecting a 35.4% growth from October 2024 with average win rates rising by 1.4 percentage points. These outcomes have propelled the total year-to-date operator revenue for 2025 to over $2 billion, trailing last year’s total by just $36 million, while overall mobile winnings since the inception have topped $7.1 billion.
New York collected $121.8 million in tax revenue from mobile wagering in October, marking it as the state’s third-highest monthly tax intake to date. This figure pushed the total tax contributions for 2025 to nearly $1.05 billion, already exceeding last year’s record by $5.5 million with two months remaining in the year.
FanDuel continued its dominance in the market, becoming the first operator in the state to surpass $1 billion in monthly handle. Its total reached $1.006 billion, narrowly beating its prior record of $965.1 million from January. FanDuel’s market share rose from 34.5% in September to 38.1%, though it saw a slight decrease from the previous year’s levels.
The operator also registered significant profitability, retaining 10% of wagers resulting in $100.6 million in revenue, a 30.1% annual increase. This marks the third nine-figure revenue month for FanDuel in 2025 and the fourth over the past year.
This data emerged on the same day that Penn Entertainment and ESPN Bet announced the conclusion of their $2 billion partnership after just two years, a decision partially attributed to the brand’s struggle to find traction in key markets such as New York.
Despite achieving a record handle of $60.3 million in October, ESPN Bet only represented 2.3% of the state’s mobile betting activity. The operator has not claimed a market share above 3% in any month since its New York launch in September 2024.
Although handle rose by 47.7% year-over-year, a lackluster 6% win rate restricted October’s revenue to $3.4 million, a mere 5.3% increase from the previous year. Unless November yields stronger results, ESPN Bet is likely to record less than $50 million in total revenue since entering New York.
DraftKings also set a personal record, reporting $938 million in bets for October, a 15.3% year-over-year increase, and slightly increasing its market share to 35.5%. The company’s $82.9 million in revenue marked a 40.8% annual rise, supported by an 8.8% hold rate, which is 1.6 points higher than in 2024.
Fanatics posted $205.7 million in wagers for the month, down from August’s peak but still reflecting a 15.3% increase from a year prior. Its market share dipped to 7.8%, the lowest so far in 2025, yet revenue surged by 50.8% to $18.7 million as its hold improved over two percentage points.
BetMGM reclaimed a 7% share of the handle for the first time since July, with accepted bets totaling $187.5 million, making it the operator’s second-best month ever, behind January’s $194.8 million. The company’s 7.7% hold returned $14.4 million in revenue, up by 51.5% compared to last year.
Caesars closely followed with a handle of $175.8 million and $13.2 million in revenue, achieving a 13.4% increase in volume and a 21.3% uptick in winnings year-over-year, thanks to a win rate of 7.5%.
BetRivers concluded the month strongly, achieving $4.4 million in revenue from a $53 million handle. This marks the operator’s second instance of surpassing $4 million in 2025 and its highest revenue since November 2023.
