Mohegan Sun Arena marks its 25th anniversary with a pair of Metallica concerts


Mohegan Sun Arena marks its 25th anniversary! The venue opened its doors in the fall of 2001, hosting an inaugural preseason match between the Boston Celtics and Michael Jordan’s Washington Wizards, quickly establishing itself as a premier entertainment destination at the Connecticut casino.

Iconic rock band Metallica, renowned as Rock & Roll Hall of Famers and nine-time Grammy winners, will take the stage at Mohegan Sun Arena for the very first time on Thursday, November 19, and Saturday, November 21, as part of the arena’s anniversary festivities.

The debut performance of Metallica at Mohegan Sun Arena is an extraordinary occasion as we commemorate the venue’s 25-year journey,” stated Jeff Hamilton, President & GM of Mohegan Sun.

The Mohegan Sun Arena, with a capacity of 10,000 seats, has hosted numerous unforgettable events, accommodating more than 3,000 occasions and over 15 million visitors throughout its history,” he further noted. “We are thrilled to celebrate this legacy by hosting one of the most legendary rock bands and sharing this milestone with all our fans.”

Throughout the years, the arena has played host to a diverse lineup of world-class artists, from Tim McGraw and Billy Joel to Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Chris Rock, Jay-Z, Fleetwood Mac, Bruno Mars, Ozzy Osbourne, Luke Combs, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, and many others. Additionally, it frequently serves as a venue for WWE, Division I college basketball, MMA, and boxing exhibitions.

The venue has received numerous accolades, including multiple “Arena of the Year” awards from the Academy of Country Music (ACM), CMA “Arena of the Year” recognitions, a #1 ranking by Pollstar for its size, and Newsweek Readers’ Choice awards for Best Casino with Live Entertainment in America.
