A recent article from The New York Post has labeled Nevada as the most dishonest state in the United States, highlighting its prominence in deception, fraud, and inventive documentation. This assessment primarily points to Las Vegas, home to over 70% of Nevada’s 3.27 million population.

The publication’s article referred to various instances of contemporary dishonesty, including fraud reports, romance scams, identity theft, bogus medical excuses, counterfeit identification, and even searches for Ashley Madison, the infamous infidelity platform that remains resilient despite numerous security breaches.
“There’s a reason the saying goes, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” noted the Post.
Further details indicate that different states excelled in specific dishonest activities. Florida ranked first in fraud with over 2,100 complaints for every 100,000 residents, while Arizona topped the romance scam category, experiencing a loss of $53.7 million in 2024.
Nevertheless, Nevada stood out for overall dishonesty. According to the Post, “1 in 5 residents in Nevada admits to frequent lie-telling.” (Interesting thought: do liars ever tell the truth when discussing their dishonesty?)
Alarming Cases

To bolster its findings, the Post highlighted a shocking case of a so-called “romance scam on steroids,” where a woman from Las Vegas allegedly enticed older men through dating platforms, intoxicated them, and cleared out their bank accounts.
Discovered by the FBI in February 2025, Aurora Phelps, aged 43, faces life imprisonment if found guilty of charges related to bank fraud, identity theft, and kidnapping with fatal consequences.
However, this specific case was not part of the data referenced in the Post’s article. The information stemmed solely from “researchers at online tarot reading platform Tarotoo,” as reported by the newspaper.
Moreover, there is no trace of such research or study listed on Taratoo.com—or any other credible source online, aside from the claims made in The New York Post.
Could it be that The New York Post fell victim to a deceptive scheme?
Unlikely. Tarot reading sites are famously known for their integrity—except, perhaps, those operating out of Nevada.
Additionally, Tarotoo.com is actually located in Ukraine.
