- The Big Boy diner at Terrible’s Casino Indian Springs shuts its doors today, March 31
- This beloved restaurant is a remnant of the Bob’s Big Boy franchise
The Big Boy establishment at Terrible’s Casino Indian Springs is set to close. After over five years of serving delicious burgers, the restaurant announced that its final day of operation is today, March 31.

While it wasn’t an official Bob’s franchise due to its operation by Big Boy Restaurant Group— the Michigan-based owner of Bob’s Big Boy, who established the brand without the founder Bob Wian’s name—the casino’s diner surely embodied the essence of the brand. The iconic Big Boy statue has proudly welcomed visitors outside the casino since November 2020, opening day for Big Boy Indian Springs.
“After five fantastic years, we’ve made the tough choice to close our Big Boy Indian Springs location. Thank you for being part of our story,” the Big Boy Nevada Instagram account shared.
Today marks the last opportunity to savor a famous Big Boy burger. In 1937, Wian is credited with creating the double-decker hamburger by slicing the bottom bun, having three pieces of bread. Initially, it was a playful remark, as Wian joked it resembled a “leaning tower.”
The Decline of Big Boy
With the closure of Big Boy Indian Springs, there are only 53 Big Boy restaurants remaining in the United States. Most of them are situated in Michigan, with four more in Southern California. Additionally, dozens of Frisch’s Big Boy franchises, another offshoot of Bob’s, can be found in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, although Big Boy Restaurant Group and Frisch’s are separate entities.
Terrible’s Indian Springs serves primarily as a travel hub with fuel services and convenience shopping, hosting just over 50 slot machines. Nestled along Highway 95, about 45 minutes northwest of Las Vegas, Terrible’s lies directly opposite Creech Air Force Base. This U.S. Air Force location is integral to the daily Overseas Contingency Operations.
The Big Boy Indian Springs Instagram post hinted that the Big Boy Restaurant Group may be exploring a new dining concept at the Terrible’s site.
“Stay tuned for what we roll out next at Indian Springs Casino!” the message read.
The Big Boy Indian Springs received relatively positive reviews, boasting a 4.1/5 star rating on Google from over 1,200 customer evaluations.
“Patrons rave about their burgers and milkshakes. Many also commend the friendly staff and tidy environment,” summarized Google’s reviews.
However, some Bob’s enthusiasts insist that a Big Boy differs from a Bob’s Big Boy. They argue that the signature burger relish tastes different, and blue cheese is absent from the menu.
An Overview of Big Boy Restaurants
The closure of the Big Boy Indian Springs location follows the recent shutdown of six Dolly’s Burgers and Shakes in Cincinnati and Dayton, which were formerly Big Boys.
Big Boy attributed the closures to an ongoing legal dispute with Frisch’s, which led to a court ruling mandating the renaming of certain locations in select parts of Ohio. Dolly was a fictional character associated with Big Boy.
