Poker fans who enjoy collecting trading cards of their favorite players have an exciting opportunity ahead. Leaf Trading Cards and Poker Royalty have announced their latest collaboration, unveiling a brand-new series of trading cards featuring renowned figures from the world of professional poker.
This collaboration marks the fifth time these industry leaders have come together in the last 17 years. The previous release was in 2011. Leaf Trading Cards has confirmed that the new series will include a comprehensive line-up of poker players, with Daniel Weinman, the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion, being one of the featured players.
Weinman’s inclusion in the trading cards series is highly anticipated, considering his remarkable victory at the WSOP Main Event. Poker enthusiasts will now have the opportunity to own a piece of his historic triumph through these trading cards.
Weinman Excels Among Legends
Alongside Weinman, the trading card set will showcase other poker luminaries, including the iconic Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu’s exceptional career and numerous achievements in the game make him a must-have for any serious poker memorabilia collector.
Another highlight of this series is the inclusion of Phil Hellmuth, known as the “Poker Brat,” who holds a record-breaking 16 WSOP bracelets. Hellmuth’s distinctive personality and unparalleled poker skills will undoubtedly make his card highly sought-after among enthusiasts.
We already have Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, and Dan Weinman on board for this project. When the set is released, it will feature a wide range of great cards, covering poker players from different eras, including the newest and most exciting players,” stated Josh Pankow, VP of Leaf Trading Cards.
While these three players take the spotlight, the trading card collection promises to offer a diverse selection of poker personalities from various eras. With a total of 40 players featured, the collection provides a comprehensive overview of the game’s evolution throughout the years.
Collectors, fans, and poker enthusiasts can anticipate the release of these trading cards in the upcoming year. An exact release date is yet to be confirmed as the two companies are finalizing the list of featured players.
The first poker trading card set introduced by Leaf Trading Cards was in 2006, following Chris Moneymaker’s historic win at the WSOP Main Event. Subsequent sets were released in 2009 and 2010 under the Razor Poker brand. In 2011, Leaf Trading Cards launched its own branded cards.
Negreanu’s Mixed Results
Negreanu has been actively participating in this year’s Poker Masters tournament series, but has faced challenges in finding success. He recently finished sixth in the fourth event, a $10K buy-in No-Limit Hold ’em tournament.
Negreanu reached the final table, outlasting 85 other players. However, his attempt to bluff Jonathan Little, holding a suited J-3 against Little’s 10-9, led to his downfall.
The Canadian poker pro, with six WSOP bracelets and two World Poker Tour titles, failed to improve his hand as Little flopped a pair of 9s. Negreanu’s bluffing strategy did not work, and Little called his bets. Ultimately, Negreanu busted out of the tournament, earning $54,600 as a consolation prize. This cash marks his first in the tournament series.
However, Negreanu still has the opportunity for redemption as he looks to defend his title in the Super High Roller Bowl, which begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday. Last year, he emerged victorious, securing $3.3 million, his second-largest cash prize to date.
