When it comes to Las Vegas casino resorts running out of water, it’s quite ironic that the one named after the Sahara Desert would be the one facing this issue. Videos on social media show that the north Strip property has been without water since Wednesday afternoon.
According to X/Twitter account @LasVegasLocally, “The toilets aren’t working in the guest rooms, obviously,” referring to a video of a non-functional toilet shared at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Some guests are resorting to using buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilets.
The Sahara released a statement attributing the water shortage to a water main breach that occurred during surveying work. The statement, issued on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., mentioned that repairs were underway to fix the breach causing intermittent water service issues. In the meantime, complimentary bottled water and refreshments are provided to guests on each floor and in the lobby, as the restaurants remain temporarily closed.
Twitter user @CommuterMoe shared his experience of booking another room elsewhere due to the situation on Thursday morning and posted a photo showing staff distributing free bottled water and oranges to guests.
Concerns were raised by @golly_whata-day and @mzchocolato about staff restroom usage and hygiene practices in light of the water shortage situation.
Clark County reported the closure of a portion of southbound Paradise Road behind the Sahara for clean-up following the water main break.
The Sahara reassured guests that they are actively working to resolve the issue, despite the continued closure of bathrooms on the casino floor as of 3 p.m. on Thursday.
